Stopped by the dealership yesterday and the sales manager told me that he just got allocation for my car and that I am scheduled for a build date of May 9th! He said it would take a week for the car to be built and then 10 to 14 days for it to get to the dealership! So that makes about 11 weeks from order to delivery which isnt too bad.The sales manager said that my order was the last '05 order that they were going to be able to fill and that everyone else will have to take an '06.

Also,I asked him about stripes and he quoted me at $400,which I thought was a reasonable price. So I told him I would think about it and let him know.

Now here is my question--I am having my car scotchguarded and rustproofed for $400 but for an extra hundred I can have the paint protection put on.The sales manager said that it makes it so you dont have to wax your car and also protects from fading.Should I do it just for the heck of it since it's only $100 or should I not even waste my money? Anyone have any experience with it?

I wouldn't do any of the three. Scotchguarding, rustproofing and "paint protection" are notorious dealer addons that have fat margin for the dealer but little or no value for you. Your STANDARD WARRANTY includes 5 yr. / unlimited mileage for rust. If you want to "Scotchguard" your car, buy a couple of cans of upholstery sealant at your local auto store for $10-12 and spray it on your seats for the same effect.

Just my opinion... :D

True it's only $100, but what kind of stuff that only costs $100 can claim that you don't have to wax your car? I say invest that $100 in some quality products and wax your car periodically. You'll be much happier

BTW, one only Scotchgards fabric, not leather. If you have leather, and the dealer tries to sell Scotchgard to you, just laugh. :p

I understand what you are saying about the 5 yr warranty but what about after that? I plan on keeping this car for a long time.As far as the upholstery sealant goes I will look into buying some. Thanks!

I am 99.9% sure that I am not going to do it but I just wanted to get some opinions on it before I made the final decision.

Jennifer-

I live in southern California. We don't have to worry too much about rust here. If the manufacturer is offering a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty against rust, you can be certain that on average the car will not rust for a reasonable amount of time beyond 5 years. They don't like to warranty things that they know aren't going to last. If you live in a very harsh climate you could consider "rust proofing". My point is that you're paying for something today that Ford is going to warranty for 5 years.
