I have changed the oil in that car from 12,000 to this last change at 79,000.... all with five and using synth Mobil One... but I am in Fla and my garage is in Va!!

My race car takes 7 qts, the Focus takes 4.3 qrts. Hope that helps.

I do 2 oil changes per year, 5w-30 while it sits over the Winter and 10w-30 for the Summer.

To the op, I suggest installing a good aftermarket oil pressure gauge it's always nice to know where
your pressure is with given viscosity etc.
Beats trying to determine where the factory needle is/was between H and L.

We haven't even covered things like battery terminal maintenance, filling you washer fluid, etc. that you should also do when you change your oil.
I figure we're good for a dozen or so pages if we're thorough.
I was thinking about what should be done when servicing a vehicle.
When was the last time anybody here checked the air in the spare tire? I know some here probably can't find theirs, removed because 'racecar' syndrome.

Upon further review, I left it sit over night, and the readings are slightly below the F in FULL, as shown here. Not sure what happened here. I drove it several times over the last couple of days for at least ten miles and the stick continues to show where the black line is drawn.
Further, during these drives, the oil gauge only briefly dipped to the lower L in Normal, but now, even at WARM IDLE, it is a bit higher than than, and at times, even half way up the scale to the middle R-M line. Must be thickening up somewhat?
I also contacted the dealership Quick Lane, and they remembered me because of the car, and my request for a call brand of oil for the car; Mobil One. The car did cause quite a stir; 78,000 actual miles on a 26 year old car in that kind of shape. I recall several nativity scenes forming around it.
The manager said that he specifically got the FIVE quarts for the car, even
though I know that five quarts usually only filled it just above the cross hatches...
BUT the MANUAL says just below the F in FULL is fine... so...
I do recall now that the very last oil change it got was when my brother did it for me, as I was quite ill. He forgot about the second bung, and drove it across the yard to my house (we lived next door) when he was done. When I asked about it, he freaked, and went out, and dumped the oil right where it sat, replacing it with five...
Not sure if that affected anything... readings wise, upon a change to 5W30. The 10W30 was always at the cross hatches...
UPDATE: Screw it. Went to Autozone, picked up 5 qts of 10W30, and a Mobil filter. Tomorrow will get the right stuff on board, and just forget it. Thanks all!

In the grand scheme of things, what difference does it make? 5-6 is the difference between a safe
full that is probably on the low side and slightly overfilled...What do we think is gonna happen here because of that?
Nothing... Maybe the crank hits it causing a little windage, and even if it did......so what?
Most of that oil will be circulating..some will be sitting in the worthless front sump, and maybe.....what?....a couple of qts in the rear sump?
If you have Mobil 1 in the engine, paid for mobil 1, then turn around and drain it and put in standard crude after driving it a few miles even though the dipstick registers correctly.....You may as well put grease on the bottom of your car.
(Cause you're gonna be infamous)
Drive the damn thing and forget about it...It has 80k miles...It will self correct through consumption.
And lets move on past obsessing on how full is too full..If the freakin' FORD manual has a pic that says it's fine...why are we questioning the MFG?

You have been stressing over this for days, several members here have offered advice ranging from 'don't worry about it' to 'take it back' (my advice), nobody says 'it will destroy your engine' or 'blow out your gaskets', you did have some concerns about the stock gauge readings but after so many years the stock gauge is only 'hinting' at the actual pressure.

Next time you change your oil, and I know YOU will do it next time, put in 4 quarts and the filter, start it up for a few minutes, shut it down and wait about 10 or 15 minutes, check the dipstick, not your neighbor, the dipstick on the engine, mark the level, put in the 5th quart. Wait 10 or 15 minutes, check it again, mark the stick. Done, no doubt about the level.
