Planning on having my car painted and graphics put on.
What is the best way to do this? I read on graphic express
website to never clearcoat over decals. But I have read/heard
to clear over graphics. Also, are these vinyl decals good quality?
Do you paint the lemans stripes or decal them?

thanks

The ones from graphic express are great quality, just like factory.

It would be a lot easier to paint the lemans stripe, but factory is a decal.

As far as the clear, it could probably work, but I'm sure if you call GE they'll tell you what their line of reasoning is.

The vinyl over time will expel some of its oils. On an external application, this results in shrinkage and hardening of the vinyl. Under clearcoat it may cause problems with lifting, as well as the possibility of a greenhouse effect.

Having said that, I know that my Dad's '72 Honda was originally set up with what looks to be a decal buried under lots of clear on the tank, and has done just fine.

Hey,
I have seen it done both ways but have not seen the long term effect of clear over the vynl stripes, but would expect the results they mentioned especially on the top stripes. So my solution was to Paint the top stripes then clear over them with the rest of the car and do the phoenix graphics on the sides. I must say the car looks incredible. The benefit is if the sides gets scatched I can replace the decals without repainting the whole car.
:nice:
