Did 3g alternater Please help!!!!!

Did the 3g altenater, got evrything but the fan... So I start the car a couple of times cuz I had to get a bigger belt.. Well I finally got the belt right and starter the car and no belt slip. So I turned it of... did some other stuff and went to start it again. The starter got stuck on on!!!!!!So it kept cranking!!! Did I do something wrong in the wiring which is like impossible i think lol! Or do I have that much bad luck that the solenoid went out exactly right now~!!!!!!!:mad::mad:

Btw- Its on the 1991 Mustang GT

You might not have done anything wrong man. Fox solenoids tend to stick, especially if there's any amount of cranking going-on or if the battery is kinda lame (the weak cranking causes the solenoid's contacts to tack weld closed). Cheap solenoids are also problematic.

If you want, when it sticks, pull that little red wire off the top of the solenoid. If the starter stop, your issue is NOT the solenoid. This is very unlikely however. I've never unstuck a solenoid - normally you replace them.

The only other possibility is if a wire got crossed on your solenoid.
IF you have a stock starter, it should have been a factory NON-mini. On those, the starter cable is all by itself on one lug (generally the one closest to the front of the car).
IF you have a factory or aftermarket MINI starter (this is what I would buy if my OEM starter crapped out, so it's possible you have one), then the wiring is different. You would have ALL of the big cables on the battery side (the one you connected your alternator wiring to). Then on the other solenoid lug, you would have a 12 or 14 AWG wire going to the trigger on the back of the starter.

Just be sure your wiring is connected properly before assuming it's a solenoid. I dont have any spares or I'd send you one to try out.

Good luck bud.

Its highly unlikely I crossed a wire as I only Removed one screw and I made sure nothing was cross touching. I have the starter of the 95. Will that work on the fox? And the starter is like new to. Thanks hissin.

Yeah, the 95's starter will work well if you need a starter (this problem right now sounds like it's just your solenoid, which is the thing with all the wires on it, on the driver's side fender).

For when you do want to swap your 95's starter, you just need to do a little rewiring. The starter cable will get moved to the battery side of the solenoid, and then you add a 12 AWG wire from the solenoid lug with nothing on it. Run this to the trigger on the piggyback solenoid trigger on the 95's starter.

Right now you have one lug on the solenoid that has one big cable on it (the starter cable) and that's the only cable on that lug. When you install your 95's starter, you are going to move that starter cable to the other solenoid lug (the one with 100 wires on it). Then you buy some 12 AWG wire and connect it to the old starter cable lug (that now has nothing on it). Run this wire to the trigger connection on your 95's starter.

I dont think I still have your number. Just PM me when you wanna work on it.

And no worries - I'm much more visually oriented as well. That's why I like schematics.
