hey guys i got a brand new kicker l7 (the 2004 model) and my amp was being repaired for the longest time (kicker 600.1) anyways i have been running my sub in a 1.75 cubic foot ported box and i forgot to turn the subsonic filter on untill today... what made me turn the filter on is i was bumping it on the way home and i smelt a little electrical smell (noticable enough) but no smoke, and i took out the sub from the box to make sure there was no smoke and the coil wasnt burnt and i didnt see signs of damage....

so would i have hurt a new l7 running it without the subsonic filter for a few days... and what would that smell have been from (im sure its the sub) hopefuly from not subsonic filter because if anything the gain is turned down to low on my amp to prevent it from blowing.... (id say its 3/5 turned up when ive heard 3/4 is fine)

THANKS

If the sub is new like you say, the smell is most likely just a little bit of extra glue on the voice coil burning off, and didn't hurt the sub at all. Playing without the subsonic for a few days shouldn't have hurt anything too bad unless you were completely blasting it at near distortion levels. I think you'll be fine.

The smell could have been glue, or if its a new amp or repaired amp it could be something in the amp...dust or a bad solder bridge.

The only time I have smelt something burning in my car is when I blew one fuse on in my block..my amp takes 2 seperate power calbes, so all the power was running over one input. I ended up melting part of the cable, and part of my fuse block.

I would take a good look at all your fuses and wires, and if nothing looks bad it was probably nothing to worry about.

If it happens again...then I would really start to look and worry.

Best of luck..
