Did I hurt the Stang?

Well we have probably all done this before, hit the rev limiter. Anyways I took the car up to 6500 RPM by accident on the first to second shift, did I mess anything up? All seems well just reasure me guys. It did cough like it was choking for air like it kind of sputtered but i was positive the limiter was around 6050-6200 not 6400-6500 like i hit. It was no more than 6500....

You should be okay, as long as you don't make it a habit. Do you think your SCT custom chip may have raised or removed your limiter? When I reflashed my computer with my Superchips Mircrotuner, I could rev my GT to high hell with their tune. Or I also noticed you have an auto, you think your shift points need to be adjusted??

I use to do that all the time in my camaro, but I had a stage 3 th350 with a full manual valve body. Man that thing would like some F&%*ing tires up. I ended up putting a 700r4 in it. Wanted that overdrive. I was turning 3K at 60 mph. :nonono: Of course I can run it up to 7K :nice:

On mine the stock rev limiter is set at 6250 . I also know the 99+'s have a fuel shutoff "safety" feature that will cut the fuel if it notices the revs at the limit for a few seconds. There is a switch in the back of your trunk that you have to push if you think they may have happened. If it was sputtering, you may have enabled that "safety" feature. Just a thought.

Very doubtful you hurt anything, but as everyone else has said, dont make it a habit!!!

manually shifting will really hurt your auto-trans and when racing it hurts e.t.'s I tell you from experience, I did burn some trans clutches doing that.

Me too. Manually shifted the AOD in my 91 at the track on Tuesday. Transmission began slipping on Saturday. As for the limiter, don't worry too much about it. Someone I know with a '00 GT, hit it during every burnout at the track. His car is fine. But yeah, don't do it too much.
