Pried very carefully with a wide screwdriver after warming the area up with a heatgun set on low

Those look very nice! I did the same restoration to my '79 taillights when I put my car together 4 years ago. It definitely makes a difference.

Repainted mine with the same chrome paint when I replaced my smashed LX lenses a couple months ago. HUGE difference in the amount of light output. Used the butile ribbon that came with the lenses, but it never sealed up right and the clips wouldn't hold the lenses in quite firmly enough for whatever reason, so I wound up using black RTV silicone to seal things up. No problems since.

I did this a few years ago...everybody who saw them said they were the brightest LX lights they'd ever seen. Good thing too, because visibility is cheif!

they look great!! i have the same taillights and mine are pretty dim, ive had 3 people pull up next to me and tell me so.
ill be doing mine pretty soon, thanks for the idea!

I've actually been seeing quite a few foxes on the roads with dim taillights. I guess the age of these cars is doing a number on the reflective surface inside the lights.

Guess it's time to start getting the word out that some guys need to address this issue like I have.

I pulled mine apart last winter and gave them a fresh coat of chrome paint but I ran out of butyl tape so i took Darkwriter's advice and used black RTV. worked great, gave that side a flush fit that the butyl taped side dont have.
Bright stopping lights FTW!

I repainted mine silver when i switched my lenses. It makes quite the difference in lighting. The silver paint on mine was almost completely gone inside the housings.

I was going to on mine but the vert HCTL is kinda tricky to get to, and the stupid cobra wing didnt help any.
I might just pull the lens and try to brush some in the housing.

Hmm my 80 tail lights mightg have this problem.. but mine is with only one bulb on the driver side, could it be that that one part of the taillight is faded or do you think its a resistance issue. I haven't really investigated it yet haha

it dont take about an hour to get them both apart and sprayed after you get them off the car. Give it a try, if nothing else you can clean the inside of the lenses.
