Did you get your 30,000 mile checkup?

I'm wondering if i should waste the money on this 30,000 mile checkup on my 02? Ford wanted 500 to 700 and Kaufman will do it for me for 169 bux. I'm worried about the tranny flush though. Did you guys get it done including the flush? Should I get it done on my 02? Has exactly 30 thou it right now.

No. And, I had my trans (stick) fluid changed out at a Jiffy lube for under $ 30. Look at the 30K checklist and see which items you can do yourself. Then, make the decision as to what your time is worth. . My 2 cents.

If you check your manuel you'll see that the only items that need changing are the air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter (if your due for an oil change.)
Everything else is basically inspection of parts. Don't waste your money at a dealer. If your going to take it to a shop for service you shouldn't pay more than about $100.00-$150.00. Most of that will be for labor cost...

My parents insisted I get it done so the car wouldn't blow up and kill me. Cost $480

They did lube a whole bunch of crap and the car ran nicer. I wouldn't do it again though, I wasn't reading StangNet back then.

Never take your car to the dealer for something you can do yourself. Ford keeps sending me all that crap in the mail about check-ups, blah, blah, etc. They've even called and left messages on my answering machine to bring it in! I just ignore them and always throw their junk mail in the garbage where it belongs. I brought my car back to the dealer one time to get a couple new coil packs replaced under warranty and that was it. There are better places to take it than a dealer if you're not a DIY'er.

Im about halfway to the 30000 mark, but Ive already started to wonder about this. Is there anywhere else besides Jiffy Lube I could take my car lol, cant say I really trust ol Jiffy Lube to do much besides mess up cars.

Isnt there a brake inspection @ 30000M.?
I brought mine last fall at the dealer and cost was 179$ CAN so that s not to bad but still a rip off cause they didnt do ****.
They call me at work to tell me i need new pads in front and to have rotors resurface, cost 300$CAN.
I said screw you, order hawks pads 130$CAN and did the job my self. Used 120papergrind for the rotors and its great.

Every experience I've ever had with the local Ford shops here has been a bad one. From the moment you walk on the lot, they hound you and feed you BS answer to about everything, and even in the part/service dept they are purposefully misleading and sometimes outright lie. Now, I know enough about cars to filter through their BS and not get ripped off- but just imagine what some sweet young girl or and older senior must feel like. I say, to hell with dealerships. The good ones are SO few and far between. I never let dealerships touch my cars. The best thing you can do is to take the time to learn your car and do the work (aside from major) stuff yourself. Best decision I ever made was to flip dealers teh bird and do my own work.

StangLou, if you're talking about oil changes either do them yourself and save a few bucks, or take it into a Merlin. I have a freind that works there and I've gone there a couple of times to get an oil change. They have mobil 1 and it costs something like $45.

Yea Im right with you there. On my old old car a '88 Z-24, they forgot to put oil in after draining it and changing the filter. They seized my brand new engine with 500 miles on it. Took me 3 months to get them to pay for the new engine.

i agree with all the people who say if you can , do it yourself...but my dealership has been nothing but helpful for me, and when i did my 15k mile checkup, i told them what i needed and they did exactly that. there were no surprises or anything and the guy went over each thing that they were going to do. but i have heard of experiences where dealerships will screw you over on parts, advice, and service

I'm wary of the dealer, too.

I just had an oil change done by a Ford dealer this week. I took it there because it's just a few minutes from where I work. The good news was that, while I was waiting, I got to sit in an '05 Stang in the showroom without being hassled by the salesmen (it was early in the morning and the salesmen hadn't arrived yet). The bad news: it took them an hour and 45 minutes to do the oil change. Also, since my '02 GT is at 26,500 miles, they showed me the list of things they'd LOVE to do at 30,000 miles. Here's the list from their brochure:

1. Replace Engine Oil
2. Replace Oil Filter
3. Rotate Tires
4. Balance Tires
5. Check Tire Condition and Set Pressure
6. Inspect, Clean, and Adjust Brakes
7. Replace Spark Plugs (Non-Platinum)
8. Install Injector Cleaner
9. Replace Fuel Filter
10. Replace Air Filter
11. Replace Engine Coolant
12. Check Suspension
13. Replace Transmission Fluid
14. Service Battery Terminals
15. Check Exhaust System
16. Inspect Drive Belts
17. Inspect Hoses
18. Check & Top Off All Fluids
19. Lubricate All Door Hinges
20. Inspect Axles & DV Boots
21. Use Diagnostic Unit For Stored Memory Codes
22. Road Test Vehicle

All this for $394.95*, with the * meaning "6 & 8 cylinder engines slightly higher," so figure on $420 to $450.

A couple of things made me laugh here. I don't need item #5 because I already replaced the crappy OEM Goodyear tires at 24K, and #22 happened to me at another dealer without my consent a while back. After my service was finished, my car had seven more miles on it than when I dropped it off. I never did get a satisfactory explanation on that.

Anyway, let me ask everyone out there: which items on this list really need to be done, and which ones don't? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

every thing on that list is easy fix, with exeption of the trans fluid. if its a manual no prob, if its a auto, draining the torque converter will be a messy job... not that ford will ever drain the fluid out of the converter for ya.

These are the things I would do at 30k.
1) Change engine oil and filter
2) Rotate tires if you start seeing uneven wear. (ie. more wear on the back tires than the front)
3) Check tire conditon and pressure. <---This should ALWAYS be done by yourself at least once a month.
4) New brake pads/resurface rotors. (Only if needed)
5) Replace the platinum plugs with copper plugs.
6) new fuel filter
7) new air filter/clean the filter if you have a K&N.
8) Check suspension
9) Replace transmission fluid. (I would use Mercon V)
10) Service battery terminals
11) Inspect belts
12) check/top off all fluids

Why wouldn't you get your 30thou done? I got mine done the same place I get my oil changed

With the fuel filter change out, it cost me 240$

You should get your tran fluid sucked out by 30,000. Mine was all brown and nasty

I would stick to the maintainance schedule. I use my Ford agency ( Schlenker Ford Hamburg,Pa for most service & mods)I pay a little more...but one & done..never had to go back to re-do something.

Do most of you guys perform maintenance by the mileage or the time owned? My car will be 36 months old in May, but it only has 17,000 miles on it. I'm doing the 36 month service instead of the 20,000km. Anyone else do this?

I bought my car as a trade-in at a Lincoln-Mercury-Jaguar dealership. Same Ford maintenance schedule and knowledge of vehicles, but far better service. The 30k service cost me just a shade over $200, I think, but I had them do something else extra at the same time if I recall. I feel weird taking my car to a dealer, which is something I never used to do, but I got to really liking this place. They change my oil for $23 (and that means I get the correct Motorcraft part-synthetic 5w-20 oil and a Motorcraft filter). I couldn't do this myself for $23, and then I'd have to get rid of the used oil.

I go by mileage(& time for somethings) March will be 36mn..@20,220. You can't go wrong over maintaining or ahead of schedule service.
