Difference between Mac Prochamber and regular H pipe?

I'm at Haney Motorsport right now and I see 2 choices of midpipes, one being the Prochamber and one being a regular catted H pipe. Anyone know the difference? Is the Prochamber still considered an H pipe? I have Flowmaster 40s and wanting to get the best possible, non-raspy sound.

The Prochamber is supposed to offer the best of both H and X (ie low end TQ and Top End) I think...

Any how with my 3 chamber flows I had compared to a friends H pipe there was an obvious distinction to the PC. IMO the PC sounds much better than a normal H pipe. However it doesn't sound as exotic as a full X pipe.

There was a thread a while back where some one cut open a Prochamber. Was kinda wierd looking.

Yeah definetly go prochamber... sounds different that your normal blowmaster

The prochamber will be the less raspy non-popping option. It has a smooth, refined, and hollow-like tone. I sometimes wish I had the mean and rough sound of the H pipe, but when I let the prochamber and flows rev past 3k, I change my mind.

It starts to have an exotic howl to it that sounds so great. The prochamber will be more quiet than the H is, especially with cats.

So in order to preserve my sound, I should just get the Mac regular H pipe with 2 high-flow cats? I currently have the stock H pipe on with 4 cats so I'm thinking the Mac H pipe would sound louder with just 2 cats and a larger 2.5" diameter?

Yes, the Mac pipe with cats will be louder than stock. The prochamber with cats will only be slightly louder than stock. I would go with the catted H in your case. For offroad, I like the prochamber.

I have a prochamber on my 98GT and it is the best sound ever. Your motor it sounds good as well .... I don't think you can go wrong either way really. Anything is better than the stock trash.

I'd go with the prochamber. I love the way mine sounds with my 40-series flowmasters. I get compliments all the time on it

the high flow cats on the prochamber are really nice, they didn't quiet down the flows at all. As far as leaks, there are none, for a little over a year now.

One suggestion I would make though is to maybe apply an additional layer of high temp paint to MACs coating, as mine is coming off where I have rubbed some speed bumps. I believe I have a picture on my cardomain site from when I installed my headers. Slight rust spots at the welds etc... nothing really to worry about, but if MAC offered a SS version I would have gone that route and had the thing ceramic coated. Over all really worth the money for sound and fit.

I miss my Prochamber... I'm happy that my old prochamber is doing its job in new home.

Prochamber sounded better then X pipe i had befor, and sound 100times better then my current set up

But Seraphitia, you being in CA, can u change mid pipe???

keep in mind a catted prochamber is gonna be pretty quiet....if you go with a prochamber, get an offroad...some people complain tho, that the chamber makes weird tinny, kinda scratchy noises.

either way, an offroad H or prochamber with flows is the one of the most unraspy offroad combinations you can go with.

the catted prochamber isn't that quiet. The high flow cats a really good.

As a matter of fact my catted PC + SLP is louder than most peoples O/R setups (and I don't have that nasty popping and backfiring)

I do believe that there is a CARB number for some midpipes?

I have a Mac catted H-pipe w/ cats & magna packs. The sound is incredible. So far I have been follow twice by people who just wanted to know what my ehaust system was. My only gripe is the pipe doesn't seem to seal well with the stock headers. I keep getting the annoying engine check light because of the exhaust leak. I have bought some napa studs which will hopefully solve the problem.

I wouldn't mind trying out the prochamber w/cats if I can't solve my exhaust leak. Beside my h-pipe is not stainless steel. Having magnapacks greatly contributes to the sound.

for convenience....i have the prochamber w/ both sets of legs....only cost an extra 75$ or so....I've left the O/R ones on ever since I bought em...they're a lot louder, and I'm tryin to cover up that slight S/C whine comin from the SQ

well I'll throw my 2 cents in here having had stock, prochamber, mac h, and now an xpipe.
Stock we all know what it sounds like and how it pulls.
Prochamber - lil throaty nice sound not real loud. strong from idle-5500 nice and smooth. WILL not clear a DS loop and allow tech to see it. UGHHH
Mac OR hpipe - sound makes me drool however mine would never stay sealed and exhaust leak free for more than a few days at a time. UGHHH pulled from 2k-5900 was nice felt a lil less torquey down low had to use the gears more.
Xpipe - sound is well an xpipe raspy kinda nascarish to me. kinda weird on the rpm badn though. Pulls good from idle to 2k or so then goes kinda flat till over 4k then rips to redline. So I've found I either have to use the shifter more to either get down into the low rpms for city driving or let her rip to pass on the interstates. very weird IMO. But it is leak free, and clears DS loop.

I have the o/r prochamber with magna packs and I even got pulled over once for it. The cop just wanted to know what my setup is. I love South Dakota where you can tell a cop that you stripped the cats off the car and he thinks it's cool. My combo is LOUD!!
