Difference of Fox and SN95 T5 trans?

I found an SN95 trans for my fox and I was wondering if it was the same outside demensions as the one in my fox. Basically is it just a bolt up and play? I heard that maybe the bellhousing was longer/shorter or something (doesnt make since to me but wanted to check) and that maybe the tailshaft was different or something. Anyways you get my drift.

the input shaft on the 94-95 transmission is longer.

Is that the only difference? If so what would i have to do to get it to work in my fox? Does the bellhousing compensate for it? Well my starter work with it? Sorry for the attack of questions I just "gotta know", you know?

The sn95 has a longer inputh shaft if you wanted to use it. I think you would need a sn95 bellhousing also?

It comes with the bellhousing. I went to a link someone gave to me about the differences and the fox trans has a 7.18 input shaft lenght and the SN95 has a 7.85. Will the bellhousing compensate for this and I'll be ok? Or will i have to run the SN95 flywheel?

Another thing, will my clutch cable and mounts and driveshaft work with this?

GAAAAAhh!! such a PITA why didnt ford just leave a good thing alone? LoL

where do you measure from? the side of the trans? the bearing retainer?

Umm u might need a flywheel. But im not sure. Also remember that this will move the placement of your shifter further back. Also i believe that your fox tranny has a neutral safety plugin on the top part of the transmission. SN95s dont have that so im not sure how it will effect ur car.

the trans will work if you use the sn bellhousing,clutch fork. the shifter hole will need to be cut out half inch in the rear and the spot welds on your cross member will need cut so it will slide back on the sleeves. i have 2 sn cars with fox trannys in both of them easy swap

rradracer-so the clutch cable works for both trannys i assume? If i have to move the shifter hole a little bit (not a big deal at all) will my driveshaft still work? i know it can compensate for some play but is that too much? Thanks fellas!

oh yeah and im putting the SN95 tranny in a fox.... not the other way around. Not sure if you knew that or if you were just telling me what you did with yours, thanks again.

the drive shaft will work also the cable will to .yes it will work in a fox i had to do just the opposite to make a fox work in my sn. if you have all the parts ready that i told you it will be a unbolt and bolt back in deal and it wont take anything else.

Technically you have to shorten the driveshaft to use it. You'd probably be able to get away without doing that though. It's much easier to just change out the input shaft. It's not that hard, you can get the repair manual off of the TTC automotive website in pdf for free. It's like a 20 minute job. All you have to do is stand the trasmission up on end, remove the retainer, slide the old input shaft off, repack the roller bearings and slide the new one on, put the retainer back on.

I've got a 95 sn95 with the 5.0. The T 5 transmission is shot. Can I use one from a fox to go into my sn95 if so what has to be done?

The easiest route would be to swap the input shafts - use the corresponding input shaft for the year/generation of car. So if you're using a Fox body 5.0 T5 in an SN95 5.0 car that was equipped with a T5, use the 95 5.0 input shaft. Nothing else should be needed in this scenario.

^^ this is correct. You need to use the input shaft that corresponds with the bellhousing. SN bell with SN input shaft. If your original trans is shot, the input shaft can be swapped into the fox T5.

A quick question, what was the fox trans from (4 cyl, pre-90 V8, 90 and later V8)? A 4 cylinder T5 will not be something you want for your '95.

One other major thing to note here with regards to speed sensors. I know this is the 94-95 section, but since we are talking about SN95 T5's it should include 96-2004 V6 T5's as well.

94-98 SN95 T5's will have a speedo drive gear clipped to the mainshaft like the fox cars. The speedo sensor may be different, but you can remove that and install a Fox VSS and speedo gear like you would expect and everything is good.

99-04 V6 cars use a tooth wheel pressed onto the mainshaft and a VR type sensor to count the skips. Not compatible with the VSS setup on the fox. The boss for the speedo drive gear is present, but the hole is not drilled. So you would need to drill the hole, and install the clip and gear from a fox onto the mainshaft. Then, since these trans used a reverse brake, you would need to use either a 94-98 tailhousing extension, or a late 92/93 Fox tailhousing that is equipped with reverse brake, OR modify a fox extension to accept the reverse brake locating tab, OR delete the reverse brake feature.
