I was reading a TR3650 rebuild guide and noticed there is more than one version of it. 1st - 4th gear are the same gear ratio but 5th gear. It seems like all the Mustangs have a .67 5th gear ratio and the other version had a .62 ratio. My question is can I put the .62 gear ratio in my Cobra so I can run steeper gears and not kill my Highway gas mileage

if you can find an 0.62 drive ratio.

I have not messed around with the T-3650 other than looking in the service manual. But the 5th gear design does look very similar to the T-5's which will allow you to swap OD's. But i am not sure if there are any specific difference in the parts.

I'd be more interesting in landing the entire transmission, not just 5th gear :)

I was looking in the Corral forum and found out that the Mach 1's TR3650 has a .62 overdrive ratio due to the 3.55 gears

this has me very interested, cause i put 4.10's in a short while ago, & my rpms are much lower than i expected. on my last gt they were higher i know. it had me so confused i got underneath the car to turn the driveshaft to make sure i had 4.10's. i guess this answers my questions about it :D

According to tremec's site, there are 6 versions of the T-3650.

1 is a heavy duty 5000lb GVWRD version, so i doubt that would go into the Mustang.

Another has a 390 ft-lb torque rating with a 0.68 OD for a 4000lb vehicle

That leaves 4 T-3650's that would most likely go in the Mustang.

Only 1 has the 0.68 OD ratio, while three have the 0.62 OD ratio.

The thing is, which trans goes in which car? I'm assuming several of the T-3650's are update trans. But being that the 0.62 OD trans looks like it may have been revised a few times, one would think it was the GT trans?

Where on the T-3650 is the Buck Tag so we can see which of those trans go to which vehicles/

I thougt the cobras all had t-45's.. not including 03+. Guess I was wrong :p

i have a 2002 gt and my 5 is 0.62 and i would gladly change it for a 0.74 when i want to accelerate...sorry was used to a t-56 in my old camaro...that is almost the same as in the new mustang cobra.

for a od change i think for the price and jobs it will be easyer to change the transmision but if you are doing this i think you should go with a t-56 6 speed when you try one you need one.

i tried to find some info on the tremec if they were 0.67 one days and 0.62 the next. the only thing i have found is both one days is 0.67 and the other is 0.62 but for sure mine is 0.62
