Distributor failure nosie?

When I start my car, I hear a fast, rattling noise for the first couple minutes while the car is running. If I open the hood, the noise seems to be coming from around the distributor cap. It always goes away after driving for a while.

The noise leaves me wondering if perhaps the distributor isn't getting proper lubrication upon start? This noise is new to my car - I've only seen it for a couple weeks now. I'm not sure what else to suspect for this.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to get someone to stand next to it while I rev the engine, as I expect that a distributor noise should change pitch with engine speed. When I get to that, I'll update this.

Get a long section of dowel rod, long screw driver, etc, and put it on the
dizzy and your ear on the other end.

Watch out for the spinning belt.

I stand corrected, the noise is actually more of a whine than a click or a rattle. I still need to get someone to stand next to the car for me while I rev it to see if it changes frequency with engine speed.

With that method I suggested above ..........

It could be possible for one to reach over and rev it up with
the tb linkage

You just move the dowel rod around to various places to pin
point where the noise is coming from.

Could be the dizzy, alt, idler pulley, etc
