I HAVE A comp cams # 35-518-8 roller cam in my stang, what dist gear do I need and how can I tell whats on it now, I just bought a procomp billit TFI distributor but I dont know what gear it comps with.

You need a steel cam gear. The cast ones look different from the steels. Steels have a machined look all over, the cast ones are rough where not machined.

so where do I get a steel gear for a procomp distributor

Measure the shaft diameter where the gear is located then order one from Summit Racing. They stock several brands of gears. Ford Racing's steel gears come with good instructions on swapping the gear.

I cant find a steel gear to fit the pro comp ford distributor, it seems there different.
dont know if the one on it is steel or cast, I just cant tell

My machine shop did some sort of test (hardness or Brinnel (sp)) to determine what gear came with my Mallory. I had already bought a steel gear from Ford just to be sure but it turned out the gear supplied with my Mallory was a harder steel than the Ford.

Point is, take the gear to a good machine shop. They should be able to determine if the gear you already have is steel or not.

Perhaps a bronze gear should enter this topic.

My performance issues disappeared when this type gear was installed.
