I have an annoying oil leak coming from where I believe to be the distributor. I have come to this conclusion because there is oil puddled up on the front of the block and the is oil puddled in and on top of the distibutor hold down. I just put a new distributor in with a new o-ring. How do I stop the leaking?

Are you sure its not the lower intake to block gasket(aka Intake End gaskets) behind the Distributor? Thats normally the case.

If it's the intake then this is what I recommend:

Clean up the spot real well and make sure the back isn't leaking also. Get your engine hot and retorque your intake to spec using correct pattern.

Now, did you install the intake? What type of end seal did you use? When you start messin around with aftermarket parts, head milling, etc. (especially mix matching stuff) this will affect the gap between the block center ridges and the intake. A lot of time what will happen when using cork is it'll either get blown out/shifted because the intake gap didn't compress it enough OR oil will work it's way past the weak seal for the same reason.. The oil you are seeing is from the crankcase and I'd bet money it leaks worse the more you beat on the car......no? Hopefully retorquing the intake will fix it, if not just replace the gaskets. I've tried sealing up a leaking lower intake gasket using rtv on the outside and it doesn't work, dont waste your time haha.

good luck

Drew

i had the same issue. it was the lower intake gasket. clean it up and run the engine and watch the area. you might have to give it gas to make the pressure go up. if so just pull on the throttle cable from the front.

Does your distributor have an o-ring on it?
