Do these exhaust tips look stupid?

Last week I bought some tips.

I can't bring the exhaust tips in any further. There is a welded support bracket in the way that holds up the tail pipes, and the tips are about 9 inches long. (Magna Flow Stainless Steel)

I have a Dodge Ram 1500 truck, and they are also sticking out. like many custom trucks and cars that I have seen at car shows. The tips are sticking out about 4 inches past the bumper.

Do you think that they look really stupid?

Several people have told me that they wish that they would have longer tips that would stick out so you can see them better.

If you can't see the nice tips, I can't imagine why people would buy them in the first place!

Wow, that car is practically identical to mine, minus the wing. Same level of faded paint and everything. Yeah, they look stupid. You can take a mitter box, and chop them down to the right length.

I guess that I shouldn't have bought any exhaust tips, and just left the car alone!

Less is more sometimes!

I didn't realize that if the tips are sticking out past the bumper a few inches, that they would look bad to some people.

If the tips are under the car and you can't see them, I don't really know why anyone would spend the money on something nobody can see.

If you cover up all of the chrome on a Harley with a plastic box or something, why have any chrome on it in the first place?

They do not look good. Cut the exhaust hangers off, put the tips on and then re-weld the hangers onto the tips. Having them stick out that far can be dangerous as I've seen people burn the hell out of their legs with pipes like that. Position them so they are not hidden, but also don't stick out like in your pic.

Hummmm!

I use to own a 1967 Vette. One of the best looking things on the car was the 4 feet long exposed exhaust pipe. And sure, people could burn the hell out of their leg when getting out of the car, but you can burn the hell out of your hand if you touch a hot burner on your stove or take a hot shower?

Why do you guys not like to see any chrome? I mean, it is only 4 inches sticking out the back!

Why would anyone buy exhaust tips that you can't see? Why would you buy car stereo speakers that you can't hear?

I thought that this would add something to the car, not take it away!

I'm not trying to be stupid. I just don't know why you think it looks so bad!

What looks so bad about it?

it doesn't flow with the body lines. it makes it look tacky especially since you can see where they mount to the existing pipe.

EDIT: the only reason they should be out that far past the bumper should be if you put a flame thrower kit on there :D

You asked if it looked stupid. And truth be told, stupid may be a harsh word, but it certainly doesn't look good on your car.
Tips on a Mustang, IMO, don't look good. It's something you see on a Civic. You need a continious flow of pipe, no break. Again, it's all OPINION.

Dukes of Hazzard come to mind.... they add nothing to the look of your car... the tips need to go....:notnice:

BTW... Welcome to SN ... first post and we all blow you outta the water....:D

I think it makes your car look a little too happy to see me, but that's my opinion.

Seriously, I'd shorten them up. I'd also look at cutting on the upstream side, and not the exposed end. Can you notch the tube so it will slide past your hanger, thus extending your tip farther underneath the car (so it looks more like one continuous pipe).

Don't pay too much attention to these guys. They're pretty harmless, but I learned a long time ago: "Don't ask a question you don't want to know the answer to". Does this make my car look stupid is a sure way to get an answer you don't want.

Nice color!

I cut 3 inches off of the exhaust tips this morning, and moved them forward.

They stick out about 1 1/2 inches now. That is all that I am going to be able to get out of them, otherwise they won't mount and they will leak.

They look better now, I think?

They look better than the discolored way that the pipes looked before I put them on anyway.

You guys are taking me too seriously! The part about the Redneck or Dukes of Hazzard was supposed to be a stereotypical joke.

All of the snobs that drive a Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, or whatever, around here always think that Camero, Mustang, Hot Rod, or jacked up Pickup Truck drivers are all Rednecks.

If they hear your vehicle engine in traffic, at a stop light, or somewhere, they just give you this "Dumb Redneck Go To Hell" look.

They think a car should have no sound at all, because it might upset their dog or babies in the back seat, I guess!

We have a lot of rich people living on the Intracoastal Waterway and lakes around here. They complain about boat and Jet Ski noise. If they didn't want to hear a boat, or people having fun, why did they move on the water in the first place. They should have put their million dollar house out in the woods.

Okay,

After reading many posts on different sites, I think I've found the best look for the car exhausts tips now!

You have talked me into it!

Honda owners beware, and stay back 40 feet!
