when i go pedal to the metal on the highway my engine starts to make a pinging noise i guess i dunno, it wont do it unless the engine is under some kind of load, if i put it into neutral and rev it up it sounds alright but on the highway it sounds like crap, i was told its becuz im not using premium fuel, is this true?

That is right... Higher grade/octane Is the timing advanced? Did it just start ??

i think its bone stock and no it had been running for a bit

What is your timing set at?

and what temp was the engine at?
one can back timing down (if it is advanced) instead of increasing octane.

also might check FP when it is hot and does this - FP might be on the outs.
codes might help reveal which way to go.
