Currently my car dosent have one because it didn't have one when I bought it. I'll probably end up with one if I ever start driving it often. I dont race, so I'm not worried about weight. Also my car has stock 4 lugs so a spare will fit just fine. If I could not fit a spare in the hatch without it looking silly, then I wouldn't carry one. I'd have fix-a-flat or something.

I can count the number of times I've had a flat that required changing, on the road, on one hand. I've stopped and helped other people change their tires more than my own.

Factory steel spare just over 30 lb. with jack and lug wrench 36 lb.
Aluminum spare 19.2 lb. Doing some weight reduction,so numbers are fresh in my head.
I see how people drive these days. One hand on the wheel, the other hand and both eyes on the phone. I carry my spare, but I’ll be cashing in some Hagerty Roadside Assistance if I’m stuck on the highway!
What kind of extra batteries did you need that went in the spare tire well? Old school hydraulics?
2 large amg batteries. Decent stereo and no battery up front. Probably could only use one but I disconnect one if the car is used as a party stereo.
I took it out for now. Only twice in my life have I ever gotten a flat and both times I knew the tires had some issues.
These tires are brand new and I drive the car like a sissy. If anything happens I'll park the car and have someone bring me out a tire and jack or just tap into my Haggerty Roadside that I pay for and get 50 miles of towing.
Just realized my tire iron doesn't even fit the lugs I have and I also don't trust the scissor jack.

I'm with karthief, I don't think the risks are worth the rewards (because there is no reward for not running a spare, so it's really all risk).
Stuck on the side of the road for hours, flatbeds, flatbed drivers, idiots texting why they drive by. Could be summer and you sweat your ass off.
All to avoid using a spare that barely weighs anything and takes up no cabin space? Just doesn't make sense to me.

For a lug wrench, buy an extendable gorilla with interchangeable socket. If the changeable one is too thick walled, just throw a regular socket of right size in the package.

Well, if I were to go to a car show that was 1hr away or so, I usually bring a small tool box, a full-size spare, and a mini jack I have.

I can grab a cheap breaker bar the correct size, but would like to try out a spare that doesn't require me to use a spacer on the front, or play musical wheels by swapping a rear to the front since my rears are a different (larger) size.

When im at the college campus, the parking office loves to put wheel chocks on your car if you make the smallest mistake. Had enough of paying tickets so I put my spare back in, and kept my battery powered cutoff in the trunk. I pay a premium for parking and they still chose to lock my wheels!
First time I swapped my spare on and left there wheel chock on the ground. Weeks later, they tried it again so I cut there wheel chock off. Haven't got a ticket since then, though im sure it will come back to bite me
