do you need an x pipe or an h pipe for dual exhaust?

trying to get a grasp on things thet i need done after my ho transplant, and exhaust is one of them. but im on a student budget and just want somthing basic.wondering if i can ghetto skimp on this. im talking duals via headers - cats - long straight pipes - bullet style mufflers dumping before axel.
that was my idea of the cheapest exhaust. so im wondering if it will work and if i can pull it off

you can use either. Its basically personal preference.

no you dont need one. My current exhaust doesnt have them, and the exhaust im going to get after the new tranny is going to be just like yours. Headers, straight pipes, dynomax bullet race mufflers, and then dumps before the rear axle.

jeesh Timmy, your making us look bad!! LOL.
Yeah that'll work, just make sure you put hangers on the pipes so they dont hang. Its not hard at all to drag your exhaust on the ground, especially if you lower the car. Keep it snug up against the bottom of the car. They say that an X or H equalizes pressure but I'm sure if you did a side by side on a dyno you wouldnt see any difference. This is especially true with a dump setup since the exhaust doesnt have far to travel before it hits the atmosphere. I've run the bullets and boy did I get some looks. People thought it was a race car, it was great!!

Having some sort of crossover will increase performance, as well as quiet down the exhaust. Truth is, it's probably cheaper to buy an h-pipe than have someone bend up some pipe and look and fit decent. But yes, cars and trucks for many years had dual exhaust without anyh type of crossover -- and it works just fine.

And it sounds like a redneck truck.

If you're on that tight a budget, though, you could leave both sides of the exhaust separate and not hurt anything.

just bolt on www.summitracing.com off road hpipe, its like 120 bucks.

I dont necessarily agree with that. The Nascar guys use an Xpipe for somereason, so it must make a few ponies or they wouldnt bother.

Ya know, I think there is a difference between Nascar and his car. Something like 300 horses maybe?? Comparing a straight exhaust with dumps and that with an X-pipe on a car like his will see no difference on a dyno. Since hes dumping and using bullets, hes going to have like no restriction anyways.
