the one time i powersifter our 86 it got sideways. it was fun but my dad was a little erked i was driving his car like that. i think i dontdo myslef any good with this either. i think thats why no 5 speed for me till i show i can drive normal and not like an ass. although every once in a while when im with my dad he will keep it to the floor and power shift 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. 4th dont liek to be power shifted in out stang. i think 4th gear is going....its real sturbon to go in to gear. but my dad said **** it if it goes it goes. he plans on buying a crate engine and a rebuilt t5 in the NEAR future for his stang(as song and the funds become avaible) if if he gets it in the next year or to i plan to take his stock engine and trans off him and rebuild it and guess where it is going. in my mustang. i can see it not both of the 4 eyes half torn apart with a new power house of power going in them.....o i cant wait.....

but IMO unless you got some money back that you can afford to throw a new trans into your car then be a sally and lift. if you want to run your stang balls out from ever red light then do it. just get a video :nice: but mos tof the time my dad lifts. but when he dosent its fun.

I've only powershifted a few times...sometimes, in traffic, I don't even use the clutch when driving...but you have to be real easy on it when not using the clutch, otherwise you just grind the shat outta it.

It's always fun when you powershift and hit it perfectly...it makes me smile!!!:D

Aliate, idk about that, going on 5 years now with a stock 100K+ mile T5 and powershifting it every track pass. I dont abuse it on the street and run a weak clutch, but it hasent given me issues (had the second gear synchro replaced shortly after it went in though).

With our proshifted T5, you dont lift, and barely clutch it. THAT car sounds like an auto going down the track. Just a nice bang and your in gear!

I have a really BAD video of me running my dads car (had a stock T5 at the time) in the semi finals of Fords @ Etown a few yars ago. You can kind of hear the shifting, but its tough when the other car is louder!

I don't mean to hijack but how do you like it proshifted? Is it a PITA on the street? Don't you have to shift at high RPMs to get it into gear? I almost bought my Tremec proshifted but opted not to at the last moment.

Found the video...

First run is Mike Washington's teal Factory Stock notchback verse my friend Darrells 86 notch. Washingtons car went 11.8 I believe to the 86s 11.9. Im in the maroon hatch in the second race, car had a basic GT40P motor, stock T5 at the time and was still street driven. That was the factory limiter I launched off, and other than that the video is hard to see much. Also as a side note the nose of the car drops half way through first for some reason, but thats not the shift, the shift is the bounce right after that...

ran a 12.11 @ 110 that pass!

Alright well the car doesnt see street duty anymore, but I personally would drive it on the street. It makes a LOT of noice shanging gears at low speeds but if you put it in it goes. It clanks pretty hard and you feel it, which might scare some people. Some people say you cant downshift it, but I have never had an issue.

At the track on a pass, its amazing. For people who claim they arent better, you havent driven one. The tranny almost shifts itself. Use just enough clutch to get it out of gear and slam the next one. I dont ever see myself missing a gear unless there is clutch issues.

Id be willing to bet, one track pass in that car and every single person would be sold on the tranny!

Until I can afford a big ol' truck and a trailer to cart my 'Stang back and forth to the track, I'll lift when I shift. The notch is gonna be my only real set of wheels for the next year or so, and I've gotta be able to drive it home and head to work the next day.

Besides ... honestly, I'm not all that hot on my clutching skills. I have a hard enough time granny-shifting it without screwing up the clutch timing to even think of powershifting it. Of course, this is also probably a major reason why I couldn't quite break into the 14's when I hit the track this summer, but what the heck.

Oh, and the video of my granny-shifting skills (I'm sure I've posted it two or three times before, already)...

25th. your crazy. how in the world are you betting these mustangs into the 12's? without spending alot of money. you should do a write up bud.

he doesnt bet on his mustangs he races them. And personally I havent gone 12's but it doesnt seem too hard to do....with money. So go get a job at micky D's and start saving money so you can go 12's when your dad lets you stop going slow.:)

btw i shift with no lift sometimes, mainly at the track. Also I dont use the clutch too much when driving around.

:rlaugh: stop goinhg slow lol yeah not working there hate the smell.

what job options do you have for being 15? at 16 i think u can work at autozone. if so im going to do that. but till then im just buying stuff and selling stuff.

Not Diet Coke, just some off-brand bottled water ... although, now that you mention it, it does kinda look like a Diet Coke. I don't allow diet-anything crap in my car unless the girlfriend happens to have it with her, already. :)

I dont know how we do it, we just do???

I would do a write up, but hate writing, so I cant see that happening. :D

Powershifting is all about timing and speed, but I think anyone can do it. My brothers 06 is a breeze to powershift with the Pro5.0 shifter on it!

If your arm and leg move fast enough there really is no point in lifting anyways because the RPMs just don't drop that fast...I can't say i ever just mat it and leave it WOT when i shift...i learned when i was a rookie that if God forbid you miss a gear, you better trust in your rev limiter because you'll be redlineing before you can react fast enough to lift.

its a big differnce, the difference would be from chirping 1st to 2nd (bone stock car), powershift would send the car sideways in a 1st to 2nd shift. If you can nail every gear down the track powershifting, its an easy way to shave a few tenths off.

Perhaps a question that needs to be asked in relation to powershifting: If you've got a firewall adjuster for your clutch cable, is it better to have it dialed in tighter so that you don't have to put your foot down as far to disengage the clutch? ... or would you then run the risk of not letting the clutch fully seat and risk glazing it?

I've always kept mine engaging as close to the floor as I can so that I don't risk any clutch slippage, but if I even try to powershift it (or just granny-shift it a bit too fast), I wind up grinding gears.
