Few things though.
Against gas cars:
To be fair it's a 2000lb gutted car with slicks. It's going to be fast electric or gas.
How much did his lead battery stockpile and electric drive system cost him. How much are the lithium batteries he was loaned, because i know simple 18v DeWalt drill batteries are like $100 and that's for a cordless gun.
Doubt there's much of a crowd draw for electric drags. Half the reason i pay for NHRA tickets is the smell of fuel and the ground shaking.

Pollution:
That's great that it doesn't use foreign oil, and that's awesome for domestic growth. But let's not tie that to solving pollution. Where does electricity come from? Water dams and natural sources like thermal gysers? Yeah, maybe 5%. Most is coming from coal buring (still domestic power sources though) dirty plants.
What happens when we all switch to eclectic cars? We burn more coal. And news flash we have mainly bituminous coal not cleaner anthracite coal - so its really dirty.
So now we're buringing more coal and electricity demand has, let's say, increased 5-6 fold like most universities assume.
So now (poor) housholds that didn't even have cars before (or now) who were using public transit like i do, take it up the ass when paying to heat ot generally power their house. When they weren't polluting to begin with. They certainly get the shaft in this deal.

Not trying to be a party pooper. Just saying people like the idea of not shouldering the balme for pollution - like prius owners who buy NEW cars to raplace old cars which take polllution in itself, then the prius is more costly to the planet per mile than a hummer over the course of its life in what it takes to build one.
Most ideas from people are good in theory, like assuming everything will stay the same when every car in america changes its source of energy use.

I got my degree in Policy Analysis. When i see people suggesting solve-all solutions it cracks me up - that's it. Doesn't mean I wouldn't get my ass handed to me by that vibrator on wheels

If I were to be driving that car, I would need a Loud Speaker playing a loop of an engine reving. Half the fun is hearing your car roar down the track. Thats why we pay what we pay for our exhaust setups and spend so much time deciding what we want to put on our cars.

The sad part is there is a company that makes thoes
It hooks to your TPS and you can select between several exotic cars and several domestic muscle cars including a Stang 5.0. Large speaker box is mounted under the vehicle in the rear. Some people will buy anything
