Power adders are generally considered nitrous, or some kind of forced induction system. We all know nitrous on a factory vehicle is out of the question, but some form of supercharging or turbo charging often isn't out of the norm.

I too would like to see a blown GT Mustang become part of the stable, but I doubt it will happen. One thing the Ford will continue to be over the other two is inexpensive. Adding a blower to the mix is going to add $$$ to the over all price tag.....not to mention the Dodge and GM faithful will just say that Ford is cheating again like they did in 2003 when the Cobra came out and whipped their flagship Corvette.....even if GM's has since followed suit and saddled the new ZR1 with a blower of its own.

The powerplants are in the works. We don't need anything official. Did you doubt there was a new mustang when it wasn't "official".
We know they are working on higher output V-8's for the Mustang trucks. We also know the EcoBoost is coming soon. (Old nickname was TwinForce.)

If you follow the history back to the beginning you will notice with few exceptions that the Mustang has always been underpowered compared to it's rivals. This has not kept it from surviving for 45+ years now and I doubt it will matter much in the future. When you consider most people buy the V6 and low power anyway I doubt Ford is worried about it. There will always be something faster built by someone. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a 5.4 4V n/a with a 6-speed offered. With some good cams and 3.73s it would have been a good time.
Remember, it's just a starting point. No matter what it came with, most of us would be unhappy and mod it anyway. I'll be happy if they just stay in business at this point.

simply put, sometimes it is not all about power and you cant compare imports into the mix IMO simply because they dont make nowhere near the torque of a American V8(be it pushrod or OHC) and if they do it does it at 13 billion RPMs. The Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro are not muscle cars anymore, they are aimed at being true GT cars now more so than ever. The onlything I could care less about is the weight of them all, you bring the weight down with the same hp and the track times will go down, gas mileage will go up, and handleing will be greatly affected. It's not just Ford, it's all manufactors that need to rethink their engine developement habits regaurdless of power output.

with all due respect, the mustang, challenger and camaro are bonified muscle cars. They're both classified as that, and built like that. The mustang especially with it's solid rear axle. A corvette is a sports car, the mustang camaro and challenger come no where close to the same class as the vette. they're nothing but brute american muscle.

And you CAN compare the imports to the american muscle. You HAVE to. LOL, why do you think detroit is about to fold on itself right now?? Pure ignorance, ignoring the public, and especially ignoring imports.

Suburu pulls 13.1 second timeslips in the 1/4 mile out of a turbocharged 4 cylinder car that weighs in over 3300 pounds...that's mustang weight folks.

The 350z with it's 6 cylinder pulls in late 13 second 1/4 mile times, or literally within a tenth or two of an 05+ mustang gt.

It IS all about power. Even if folks don't use it or don't buy it, it's got to be there as an option. LOL, how many people actually honestly OWNED a 426 hemi cuda, or a 454 ss chevy, or a 428 cobra jet powered mustang gt500??? maybe 1% of the population. It's a muscle car war, and whether or not people own the model with the biggest engine, or even drive it hard or modify it, history will judge the winner of the horse power wars we face now not on a 315 horse offering from ford, it'll move right on to the other camps.

Some people claim to be happy with 12.8's on slicks and a tune on an otherwise stock 05+.....that's average for today folks. I'd expect 11's in todays world. 12's are now average.

I'll hold off for the 2011 announcements for now. In the meantime, I'm pleased with the supercharger anouncements.

I can't wait for the 03/04 terminator cobra prices to nose dive with the 2010 mustang supercharger options...perhaps I'll be able to finally afford a terminator

No Mustangs and Camaros are pony cars ment to be raced around tracks, have been for years. And the power is there, go buy a GT500 or a KR. Is 500hp not enough for you? With the STi's, Evo's, and such you are talking a total different class, feel, and look of cars. With different price ranges, aimed at different people. I am not loyal to one brand, I am a enthusiest and like all cars for what they are ut if what Ford does bothers you so much move on to a different make/model of cars, It is a free market. The 4.6 is not a bad engine, not for when it came out and not for now. No matter how you try to flip it around way more people are happy with the design than are unhappy with it. HP is all fine and good but in all reality it does not dominate the big picture, right now fuel mileage, reliability, and low production cost dominate all in the American car industry.

You are right the Vette is a sports car, and coming from a C5 owner and a person that has drove plenty of GT500's there is no comparing the top model Vette's to anything in Ford and Dodge's stable. But you know what that car is doing for GM?.........Go ahead I'll wait...................Nothing, it is a low production look at me and see what we can do car. It does nothing to help the rest of the line up.

You sir need to look at the bigger picture, the American auto industry is in very big trouble and untill the customers that need to be supporting them are willing to bend what they want for what they need then it is going to get worse. We are trying to move away from using oil, being energy independent, and saving the jobs of over 22 million Americans at the big 3 and all you care about is a big engine and strait line performance so you chastise Ford for not giving it to you when Ford(GM and Chrysler for that matter) need all the consumer support they can get.

We've got to clear up some mis-conceptions here.

1. The mustang is a modern muscle car. Don't mix up yesterdays definition of a muscle car with todays definition. Yesterdays definition had a big block as a requirement. Today, there are no big block muscle cars. The mustang has been the VERY definition of a modern muscle car, period. This is not opinion, this is fact.

2. The mustang was never designed to run "around" a track, lol. The mustang has always suffered from inferior handling, right up to the 08 model. While the 05+ generation has done wonders for the handling department, it's still a solid live rear axle out back and meant for a 1/4 mile track more than a circle track.

3. Cars such as the Mustang and Corvette do quite a bit more for their respective companies then you seem to realize. These cars are held in extremely high esteem, and are the cars that everyone dreams of owning. Corvette for Chevy gives the company a reputation. Chevy is seen as capable of building a world class sports car. People come to the dealers to look at the vettes, then drive home on a cobalt, or whatever their lineup is today. Each car has an indirect and strong influence on the company.

4. Please don't assume I need to look at the big picture. I am extremely well versed in all things automotive, and fully realize what the big picture is. I've been screaming about the American automotive industry and their giant gas sucking vehicles now since the mid 1990's. I've been waiting and waiting for the huge crash that had to follow...wait, didn't this happen in the 70's too?? Fortunately for us, this doesn't apply to the Mustang. The Mustang is a Niche car, and will always sell independent of whatever oil or gas crisis there is. Mustang owners will not EVER except anything other than a rear drive v8 car...even if that means that the brand mustang must eventually die. Remember the Ford Probe...the "replacement for the mustang...lol. I do think that Ford also needs to be in line with todays performance, and their ecoboost lineup is a step in the right direction. The return of a possible SVO should put Ford right into the middle of today's smaller motor'd enthusiast group... Ford needs to go ahead and develop the hell out of the mustang and continue on their current path. Ford needs to take the concentration OFF of their truck and suv lineup and focus on vehicles that are more in line with today's needs...I do think Ford has already done a good job of beginning this, but sadly it's a little late.

No Ford should not take the focus off the trucks cause THEY are currently the BEST selling vehicle they produce. They need to work on the gas milage tho on the small suv's (Escape) cause my mustang gets better milage than the wifes 4 cylinder Escape.

So let me get this straight; Mustang owners will be able to choose from a 200+ V6, a 315 HP v8, a 400 HP v8, and a 500 HP v8. 200, 315, 400 and 500.... ?? Maybe I don't understand where the complaining is coming from? That seems to be a lot of choices to me. And. to top that off, Ford is offering three different gear sets; 3.31's, 3.55's, and 3.73's. Ford's offering more choices now than ever before. Sometimes it seems that some members won't be happy unless Ford offers a 2000 HP beast that will have photon torpedos, phasers, and a flux capacitor.

The new Challenger is closer to a muscle car than either the Mustang or Camaro. You cant say a car is a muscle car because of the rear end in it, I seem to remember a certain batch of IRS equiped Mustangs rolling out. True muscle cars were bigger than their pony car counterparts, The Chevelle was bigger than the Camaro, The Fairlane/Galaxy was bigger than the Mustang, and the Roadrunner/Super Bee was bigger than the Challanger/Cuda. There is no doubt that the pony cars are labled as performance oriented cars but just because the real muscle cars left does not mean that they automaticly took their place. Now the definition of a pony car may have changed and been butchered over the years but never has took on the role of muscle car, Muscle cars died in 74 and never came back, the Pony cars that did survive had like 100 to 140hp engines in them, that is not a muscle car.

We are getting off base though and I never ment to do that. I also never ment to seem like I am questioning your know how of the auto industry. But I think that at this time and age we should be happy to be getting what we are getting. It was just 15 to 20 years ago that we were only alloted 180 to 220hp cars with really subpar suspensions and reliability problems to high hell. The 302 was and is a great design but hell man the V6's now are putting out nearly the same power as most of the GT/LX 5.0's in stock trim. Let GM do what they do, let dodge do what they do, the mustang stands on it's own two very well. Plus there are some out there that dont look for crazy amounts of power but rather a good sounding, decently quick, good looking car for a good price. There are plenty of options out there for people like you that want more power, like said before there are Mustangs in nearly 100hp increases from 300hp to 500hp.

Seems to be a lot of complaining here...

Its not all about power numbers...I mean, its a mustang..what do you expect?

with basic bolt ons the thing can run 12s...anything serious and you can be in the 11s....which is fast enough to beat like 99% of cars on the road.

Look at the new challengers...425 hp, 6.1 hemi and the best 1/4 mile ive seen in person was a 13.87

whooptiedoo...that guy ran low 14s all night in that turd...its auto so its not like its driver error

I disagree... it's a modern PONY car, not muscle car. Look how small it is compared to the real muscle cars of the good ol' days. Muscle cars were stripped down coupes with the biggest engine the manufacturer could find. The mustang has never been, nor will it ever be a muscle car... fact

So, what exactly do you consider to be a "big block"? Are the new Hemi engines in the SRT8 not big enough block for you? what about the new 6.2 (?) in the Vette?
