Does popping the clutch pose any risk to it?

Hi all,

This might be the dumbest question that has been asked here for a while, but I just simply don't know, couldn't find satisfactory answers in the forum so I thought I'd ask.
I've got a '09 GT (manual) for a year now, it's got 15,000 miles on it and I'm still in love with the car like on the first day.
So after a year of handling it like a baby (more or less...), I'm getting ready to try out some things... so I'm wondering if popping the clutch at 3000+ rpms (just to spin the tires a bit...with the TCS off) can damage the clutch? The car is 100% stock, no mods yet.
Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks so much in advance

Any sudden shock on the driveline can, repeat, CAN, hurt the clutch.

Will it?

Depends on how often and under what circumstances.

And you don't have to pop the clutch to light the tires up, just let it out faster than normal with the RPM up and it should spin the tires just fine.

I agree.

There's no need to subject your baby to the driveline shock of a clutch dump.

Just find a nice deserted road to practice... otherwise you might pi$$-off the guy behind you, when you pelt his car with road debris.

And watch for LEO's; an "exhibition of power" citation definitely sux.

Have you ever been to a track? Lots more fun than a street burnout.

Popping the clutch at 3k CAN hurt the clutch, as well as the transmission, u-joints and rear end. Really just not a good plan.

But as the others said, let the clutch out till it just starts the grab, then let it out the rest of the way fast. That reduces the shock to the drivetrain by a LOT.

i like to rev to like 3K and right as i release the clutch give a little more gas to rev it a tiny bit to compensate for any "bogging". too much "feathering" and too much "shock" are both bad for the clutch.
