So I am in process of buying a car and dealer said car has a bassani axelback so I wanted verification so I asked for some pics. I dont know enough to be able to tell visually if it has JUST the axelback or if there is an xpipe with it. Reason I ask is because I have been trying to track down previous owner to see if car was tuned and or had rear gears changed and I found him on allfordmustangs.com ( he hasnt been on it for over a year though ) and his signature said it had a Bassani X pipe with Bassani axelback. Since he lived in CA, I assume that would be a catted X since they have such strick emissions control laws. Anybody able to just look at pics and tell me if it does have the X still on it? I dont have the tech no how yet to just tell. Thanks for your time and assistance. ( cant WAIT to get the car! )

yes, the car does appear to have an X pipe welded to the stock H pipe, you can still see the cats in the first picture. it appears that they had an exhaust shop get a universal X and fabricate it to fit the stock H pipe. they simply replaced the H with the X, but the rest appears to be the stock pipe.

The Bassani cats are on the horizontal sections not on the downtubes:

The X fabrication doesn't look as integrated either. I'd agree with Bigcat - a universal X spliced into the stock system.

Ok. I was already planning on buying a Bassani X pipe to mate up to the Axelback since I'd rather have it Bassani all the way down ( excluding headers, leaving those stock ) rather then a jury rigged system. Hope the current system doesn't make it more expensive to install the Bassani X......

it appears to me that you can simply replace the setup you currently (once you buy the car) have with any aftermarket system. the over the axle pipe is OEM, and the exhaust manifolds are OEM, so it should be no issue.

looks to me like a splice in universal x pipe and those are not bassani AB, looks like GT take offs.

Better pics of the muffler bodies would be helpful, they do look like stock mufflers with tips welded on, however I had a gibson axleback at one time and the muffler bodies looked very close to the stockers as well.

Guess when I actually get the car, I'll prob be able to tell by the sound. Cant tell ya how many times I've listened to exhaust clips online. If it's stock with just a univ X spliced in, Ill be able to hear it. But I'll post better pics too once I get it in my garage....

It has a splice in X pipe behind the stock cats, nothing custom or welded, every company sells them you just cut the stock H pipe behind the cats and clamp this in. So if you want an offroad X you'd just have to unbolt the whole deal just as if it were stock.

And I believe that Bassani street mufflers look like that if you get the unploished ones. Stockers are not nearly that big.

Good to know. I really hope it's what the guy says it is cause I love the sound of Bassani and it would save me a bundle that I could spend on other fun parts Can you say 4:10 gears anybody?!!? hehe

i'm pretty sure those are bassani's. i have my stock mufflers still and they are an oval shape instead of flat bottoms and tops with rounded edges which appears to be in those pictures. get me a better shot and i'll let you know.

anything wrong with a "weld-in" universal X-pipe? I wouldn't be going to an off-road pipe anyways...........any takers (sorry to jack). I can get a Magna for $100

it'd be easier to use a splice in pipe designed for this car, and the FRPP and Pypes ones are both under 100 I think.

I cant get better pics until car arrives ( supposed to be picked up by shipping company on this coming Thursday ) and no, nothing wrong with an X spliced in. I don't have emissions in my area so don't care if has cats or not, I was gonna just go with an o/r pipe cause it's cheaper. lol But if it has cats still on it, that's cool just in case we ever do get emissions checks....

yea...............I have to keep my cats in for emissions.........but if I ever get my Magnapacks, the X would be the best way to go - AND from wat I've heard, 'most" hi-flo cats aren't much different from the regular ones.......the exception being bassani i think
