I purchased a " new to me" door glass a ways back and as I was " thinking " about installing it today I noticed the plastic bushings that came with the DG are a different color than the ones that had been on the original in my 83.
These riveted glass parts came into vogue a bit after I left the Auto Glass shop I was working at in 1980, so I don't have much experience with them from my Auto glass installer days.. Assuming this is a supplier change?? They feel and look the same, just a different color..
Am I OK using either of these... The yellow one is installed on the glass while the black one is sitting on top of the glass for the pictures...

I believe when the rivet is installed you should be able to spin the bushings. It’s been a few years since I put a door glass in so very hazy memory here.

Reason I bring this up is make sure the rivet does not lock the bushing down because when the stem pops it could break the glass if they compress into the glass.

Hopefully someone can chime in and either confirm or correct me.

Correcting myself here. When you install the halves of the door glass retainers the plastic one goes between the inside of the door glass and the bracket. The other retainer with the metal washer goes on the outside of the glass. When you pull the rivet it will make all of this tight so the retainers will not spin.

From what Ibhabe seen in videos the yellow/clear plastic ones are OEM and the black ones just a later version.

I would jump on YouTube and watch some videos.

I follow you there, I have the correct rivets that are supposed to " peel " when you use the gun on them.... This is a convertible only Door Glass that I looked for over a year... I do not want to see it crumble in my hands....

Are there any glass shops near you that can install those rivets?
I'd hate to see you bust up a new glass that took you a year to find, not saying that a shop can't bust it but at least they would have to replace it.

Appreciate the advice but I spent 35 years in the glass industry so I trust my ability over taking it somewhere and I have multiple rivet guns, including the " big daddy" as the new large rivet gun was called as these riveted assembly's became the norm as I was getting out of the installation side of the glass industry.
My question here was is there difference or a reason Ford changed the bushing colors?? There seems to be no difference in them.. I figure the Fox experts on here would know??
