We want to add front door speakers to our 78 hatchback but have found that the window crank hits the speaker grills on new style speakers. Does anyone out there know of current aftermarket speakers (not too expensive) that have a grill that will work?

Our alternative is to try and make something at this point.

Thanks for any suggestions!

You have to mount the speakers behind the door panel and use the factory grills that's the only way they clear the window crank. I'm using 6 1/2" Pioneer TS-G1640Rs with no problems like $50.

I installed some 6" kenwood speakers w/ tweeters in the doors. I used the kenwood grills, the cranks clear, and they sound great. I'll get some pics up in the next day or two.

It was a bit of custom work though, my door had holes for speakers, but I could not use it, because it would have hit the crank, and was not big enouhg for the speakers. I cut a new hole in the door, and cut some plywood to fill in a space where there was no metal.

I'll see if i still have pics of this process.
