Dr. Gas X-pipe without cats or with?

Hey guys, I just wanted to hear some opinions. The one thing I know for sure is that I want a Dr. Gas X-pipe . Ideally, I'd like to have no cats and no mufflers, kinda like stock cars at the local track, similar to NASCAR (they have boom tubes though), and exactly how John Buscema's cobra was most recently. I've been warned that this would sound extremely loud, especially at WOT. I think it would be okay at idle - 1500 RPMs, though, wouldn't it? Anyhow, if that's too loud and would get me pulled over by cops all the time, then I'm looking at a few options:

1. Put some cats on. Still no mufflers.
2. Mufflers. Still no cats. And if it comes to this, I'll either get Flowmaster original 40s or Dynomax Race Bullets. From what I hear, the Dr. Gas + Flowmaster combo is pretty wicked. Haven't heard any Dr. Gas + Dynomax race bullet clips, but it's a straight-through design that might leave the exhaust tone similar to what it'd be without mufflers.

Thoughts? Opinions? I'm interested in what it'd sound like with cats and no mufflers. Would the exhaust tone be much different?

The cats will quiet it down a fair bit and rob about 10hp.

If emissions are not a concern don't use the cats, it will be louder at idle and will be fairly loud at WOT. You can control the tone by the muffler used, a 3 chamber Flowmaster would keep it quieter, then a 2 Chamber, and a Bullet would be the loudest.

The Bullet would rob power on your set-up, stay with a chambered muffler and remember a Flowmaster needs around 13" of pipe after the muffler to have the required back pressure (Not sure if you were going to run dumps).

IMO on your set-up I would add a set of 1.625" headers, 2.5" X-pipe (any brand, the Dr.Gas set-up is nice but needs to be welded and fabricated a little), and a 2.5" MAC Flowpath Cat-back.

dont mean to hijack your thread, but i read something interesting.

you need 13" after the muffler on flowmasters? i have flowmasters on mine, and just the 1-2" outlet, nothing more. is that hurting my performance?

"Tailpipes aid in keeping atmospheric pressure from rushing back into the muffler. Tailpipes can improve performance and control sound. In addition, tailpipe length can affect the power as well as sound. Tailpipes shold be a minimum or 10", and not longer than 6' Tailpipe length of more than 6' may need a resonator."

damn.. there is directly what it has on their site. guess ill look into some extensions

Emissions are not a concern .

Why would bullets rob power on my setup? I thought straight-through mufflers were supposed to be better than chambered mufflers when it comes to power.

You want mufflers, they will help your performance. What is up with the 1/4 mile times? Did you have all your spark plugs in?
I've only been to the track once, and it turns out my car had more issues than I realized. It's had a vacuum leak ever since I got it back in February. I just got that fixed today . Oh yeah, the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor ... all originals. No kidding. :rlaugh:. And, as the signature mentions, I was using 93 octane with stock timing, so I probably lost a little bit there.

Now that I've gotten the vacuum leak fixed, I'm planning on doing a good tune-up. I promise to have better numbers next time! :)
