i have my car looking exactly the way i want it to. im in love with it every time i see it. BUT it doesnt fare well at the strip.

there is NO weight transfer to put more traction in the back. im runnin 255 KDW's and tried them at 30,25,20,16 psi and no luck for getting them to hook. i have a limited slip (3.25 gear) and traction bars. there is NO wheel hop and both tires are turnin but im sitting still. with my suspension the way it is, what can i do to help? would it be best to leave the spare tire in the back? put a small kid in the back? (just jokin)

Are you wanting to not run drag radials or slicks? Even our stock suspension Shelby does 1.63 60 times on 26x9 Hoosier slicks. Just minus a sway bar. Easiest and cheapest way IMO

Agreed, a good set of drag tires should be the first step for strip action.

Maybe I'm blind, but I'm not seeing any traction bars in that picture . . .

If you have them installed, but they weren't installed when you took that picture, what traction bars exactly do you have? How do you have them set up?

From what I've heard, read and seen, people with a set of slapper bars set up right can hook with no problems on these old cars, especially with the power level your engine has.

More info needed here . . .

good eye stone cold. they arent pictured but they are weld in under-rider bars. im NOT wanting to use slicks cause i cant run them on the street, although i guess drag radials arent out of the question though.

How much more performance do you think to get out of a 216 hp / 269 tq engine with a 3.25 gearing and a LSD? What kind of tranny do you have? what kind of axels to you have? If you get slicks and your drive line ain't up to snuff, you just might risk breaking **** when you hook up.

what numbers are you getting? (60ft, 1/8 and 1/4, with time & mph)

for the limited slip: can you lay two solid black lines down a road? or is the LSD worn out?

what RPM are you launching from?

60 fts. are around 2.4 two equal lines when spinning. i have tried launching everywhere in the rpm band. 2,2.5,3 and it gets worse from there.

on my best run:
60' 2.3
1/8th 9.9 at 72mph
1/4 15.3 at 90.89

Why not just keep your wheel and tire combination for regular cruising and have a pair of drag radials mounted on some plain wheels for when you want to go to the track. Then you can put them on and drive to the track since they are street legal.

I haven't had my car to the track yet, but this is what I was planning on doing if I have trouble hooking up.

Cobain03 interesting thread. (For me anyway.) I'm running the following.

(1966 Mustang)
1990 302 bored 30 over
Holly 600 4 bbl
1966 Stock Ford Intake
Edelbrock Performer Cam
Stock 66 headers
Magnaflows
H Pipe
K&N 14 inch
1 Inch front lower springs
1 Inch lowering rear leafs
BF Goodrich G-Force Sports 225's
Slapper Bars (not shown in picture)
Limited Slip

Should be close horse power wise. Mine for the most part grabs, but I'm taking off at only just over 1000 RPM due to my tq converter. My best time was 15.1 @ 86mph Also if your tires are spinning then you won't have wheel hop. Once you get the tires to stick then you may have wheel hop. I have wheel hop on the street, but not at the track. Which I thought was weird. I thought it would be worst at the track because of the track being sticky.

What kind of speed and times are you looking for? Your build looks pretty mild, from here it seems to be right on track.

If you want to keep the suspension you have there isn't much you can do. You can disconnect the sway bar in the front and add weight in the rear.
For traction you need the front end to come up. 90/10 shocks, Moroso springs, Opentracker roller spring perches and upper and lower control arms.

Cobain03, in short I don't know why your spinning your tires. I'm happy with my times considering the motor I'm running. I'm just going out there to have fun and learn.

im running the mustang plus grab a track shocks in all 4 corners. would switching them help? reccomandation?

if spirick was trappin 15.1 at 81 then with me trapping 4 mph quicker wouldnt that suggest a faster e.t?

Seems like there should be some more left in it but not much by the mph, maybe check the timing and advance. My times are with an open diff. and 3.0 gears with almost the same combo are in sig. I've got cheapo bolt on slapper bars which were needed to get rid of my very bad wheel hop. My
60's are 2.3-2.4 also. Spiroc has an auto so that eats a lot of HP and performance at these levels. Even with slicks you'd be lucky to get in the
14's. My best 60's are with the "bog and go" launch, basically just off idle 1000-1500 rpm, get the clutch out and mat it, else it spins the one wheel peel.

I think 88DragTop said it best. Come out of the gate with less RPM's and ease into the throttle .

My 66 ran a 14.6 @ 97mph with a 2.2 60ft with puny 225 BFG Radial TAs on a stock 6cyl rear end/springs with open 2.73 diff, V8 front sway bar still hooked up. NO weight transfer at all. You can watch the video and see the car doesnt lift at all. On my 90 coupe, i put 4cyl front springs on and took the sway bar off, added some Mickey Thompson drag radials and nearly lift the drivers front while pulling 1.7 60s with a best of a 1.65. Take the sway bar off next time you go and add some sticky Mickeys and watch the tenths fall off!!!

You might be alble squeeze a couple more tenths out. but honestly, with your speed, your really only looking at 2-3 tenths on radials. Grab a trak is ok stuff for corner carving, but its really too stiff for drag.

do a stock mustang spring in front.. NOT a 6cyl or GT spring.. just a regular v8 coupe spring. Then get a hold of some Calvert 90/10s.. For the back, get a set up Rancho 9000 RS Adjustable Shocks, Some Split Leaf Mono Springs, Caltrac's and a good set of 9 in slicks on a 15 in rim. You do this, i garrentee, the only problem you will have left is some broken drivetrain parts and the need for more horse power..LOL..

BTW, this is my exact suspension hookup, minus the fact that im mini tubed, springs moved in for bigger tire..ect.

i know that stuff isnt cheap, but if you want to hook up, it will work, then you just need more motor to go fast.
