I had an 86 convertible with a mild gt40p motor putting down 288 at the wheels, and with a t5 and 373's on street tires it would spin all the way to the end of first gear, to the end of second gear, and scratch in third gear.
Talk about no traction..the car was a low 13 second car with ease and it wouldn't do better than 9.9 at the eigth with 2.7 60's because of traction issues.
The ONLY way you'll ever be happy at the track is with drag radials or slicks. I like m/t et streets.
My bro ran the same engine combo as myself, but with LOWERING stiff springs and struts with NO suspension travel, but with et streets it still hooked up at the track enabling him to pull off an 8.7 with no track driving experience.
IMO modifying your suspension for track use is a complete mistake unless you're a track junky, or are running 400+ hp..... drag radials or slicks can handle your traction issue without comprising streetability and cornering.
You think you have issues now, wait until you get some rear gear and power behind that thing!
I've gone 1.44 on a 275/40/17, so I would think at your power level even a 245 would be fine with the suspension right. The Hoosiers seem to work better for me, but they dont last as long, and only have two lines cut in them, definitely not a wet weather tire. The M/T would be much better for something driven. They just weigh quite a bit more and the sidewalls are much stiffer than the Hoosiers are.
