I know this subject has been talked about a million times but I think each thread is specific to a certain persons car not ALL cars. Well i've got the 91 coupe listed in my sig and shown in my avatar. Im looking to put drag radials on a set of Weld Draglites. The wheels I have are 15x8 with a 5.5" back spacing. Whats a safe size that I can get INSIDE the fenderwell and not rub on my fender lip? I dont want to roll the lip. The car is dropped about 1.5" in the rear and has quads. Im looking at either the 235 or 255/60-15 ET streets. The 255's are a little taller than i'd like so maybe 235's are the safest bet?

I have a '90 coupe with 15x7 draglites on the rear, stock height w/ quadshocks. I had 295/50/15's on the rear (way too big for the rim width) that rubbed both with the fenders normal, and while rolled (and rubbed the tailpipes). 275/60/15's rubbed during bumps, but the 295/50/15's fit PERFECT, and sit nice and flat on the road.

Without your fenders rolled, and with a little drop I think the 255/60/15's you mentioned should fit nicely, but 235/60/15's would be the first 100% safe choice.

Yeah thats the dilema im in right now. I'd like the 255's but I dont want to get them mounted up and find they hit but i'd like the extra 3/4" of rubber. The 255's are an inch taller than the 235's and im not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing.

The 255's should fit with room to spare.

255 is the width but the "60" is the height of the sidewall. The 60 actually mean 60% of the tire width. So a 235/60 is shorter than a 255/60. If that makes sense.

Have you tried it? I think they'll go but I'd hate to be wrong and then have to pay to send back tires, $$$$$$$$$$! I have 235's Pro Tracs on those wheels right now and they fit with ease.

i dont know about a 255 tire. the 5.5 BS really limits some tires.
my friend has a draglite with 5.5 BS and ran 275/50s and he had to take his quads off. and beat the frame to get them to fit.

i had a 275/50 tire on a set of 5 in BS rims and they fit great kinda stuck out and looked goofy as the track but no rubbing problems, stock quads in stock location too.

i think a 255 should fit good though.

Oh, thanks GearHd6, I thought that the sidewall % was measured from the rim size, not the tire width lol... opps...
