Ok I got some free Nitto DR's 315/35/17 I was thinking about getting a 17x 10 or 10.5 inch wheel for them for track days. Well this fit on the s197s or is this combo to big/going to rub?
It'll fit. The hard part is finding a 17x10 for our cars in the correct offset. That also is a pretty short sidewall. You can make it work, but you'd be better off selling them, taking the money, and buying some that will fit on stock 17's. They'll weigh less and have a taller sidewall.
Depends on the mods. Many people run the 275/40/17 which is about the same height. With bolt-ons and 3.31's, I'm crossing the line around 6100 in 3rd with those tires. The only other height option is the M&H Racemasters which are about 28" tall. I would only go for those with forced induction or low gearing. I've had both, and my car ran faster on the MT's due to the height difference.
I'd also ditch the Nitto DRs. Unless you just want them for the look, but yes they are too short (looking) for our cars! I have the 265/40-18 (26.5") MTs and they are noticeably shorter than the OEM 27" tire, but they work great! The only advantage I've really heard of the Nitto DR is that they usually have a much longer street life than the other brands due to their harder rubber compound.
I didn't even notice they were Nitto's. Definitely ditch them. They're only good for the street, and they'll look silly because of the low profile. Sell them to someone with a SN95.
