Drag Radial size and type of tire.

I recently bought an 2003 cobra about a month ago. I have done gears, exhaust, midpipe, headers, pulley, and short-shifter so far. I was wondering, what would be the best bet on drag radial size, and what type of tire? I also plan on getting a stage IV steigmier blower(ported and polished for 55hp more than stock). I would probaly be set up in the future for near 475-500WHP by the summer. Does anyone have any recommendations on what type of tire would stick to the ground the best? I would prefer if the tires worked on the street, because I live in a pretty heavily cruised city. Can almost always find a race every 15minutes be it a civic, a fbody, or others.

Any help would be appreciated.

your probably right but it never happens to me. hows tuscon. you ever come up to tempe.

i would consider getting stiffer bushings for the LCA's to eliminate wheel hop before you get any type of tire that will hook up more or you'll be sorry when a half shaft snaps not that it will do it right away but the wheel hop is teh what will bring it's end soon

Not specifically to Tempe, but used to go to Sun City regularly to visit in-law's.. still make it up to PHX every so often. Tucson sucks.. too many people for a small area and crime is ridiculous.. but I'm sure you know all about that being in Tempe.

i use to live in phoenix about 3 years ago it's a cool place to live in except that too many car jackings but wouldn't mind moving back there hte racing scene is awsome

I currently have a set of Kumhos on it. The guy got them put on for this winter and they have about 2k on them. I have been burning them up pretty bad lately, so was hoping to get a set of wheels for racing, and a set for driving to my parents and back(200mi each way). Also, what exactly do I need to eliminate wheel hop? I was thinking of maybe putting on some kenny brown struts some time soon.

A friend of mine suggested some Mickey Thompson E/T streets - they are street legal drag tires

I'm using the stock rims, so would I be better off buying a set of 18" rims and tires for those, are buy 2more stock rims(17") and use those?

If you move to 18's, there's the undeniable fact that you're adding more rotating mass.. for bling bling that's great. Your speedo will be off, etc.

I'd stick with 2 more stock 17's, but maybe go wider if you can find the stock rims in a 10.5 or something, and then throw some fat Nitto's or Mickey's on there.

I'd go with a set of 16's (were I you). The taller the side wall, the better. A short side wall may be great for handling, but it sucks for drag racing. A short side wall is going to be tougher to get out of the hole, since there isn't a lot of give and they're more prone to "breaking the tire loose". The bigger side wall will absorb more of the initial "shock" from the launch and allow the tire to stick better. The only reason people go with 17"+ Drag radials is that they either want to use their stock rims without looking as though their running mismatched wheels and tires or can't afford to swap out to a set of wheels and tires both. I'd even recommend a 15" wheel if it was possible, but they won't clear your Cobra rear brakes.
