I am thinking its time for some new rear tires ,I am thinking of getting the Nitto 555 DR's and a centre force dual friction clutch.

If i am running these is there any chances that i could blow something in my rear end??

If you can get the car to hook there is a chance that you could break an axle or something else in the rear end. But thats only if you take it to the track alot and leave hard. It would be a good idea to put some axles in it and a good carrier in it.

I ran 285/35 Nitto DRs for nearly two years. Went thru quite a few bottles on them with no rear end trouble. They were good tires but I recently switched to KDW II's. So far I prefer the BFG's. They are cheaper and seem to grip very near the Nitto DRs on dry and way better on wet of course. Hopefully they will last longer too.

Well . . . I had a K&N filter, after cat and underdrives and bolted on a set of BFG DRs and snapped both axles on the third launch. This topic has been well covered on stangnet - I suggest you do a search on "drag radial" and see what others have to say . . . either way, bolt 'em on at your own risk.

You are also running ~100ftlbs more tq than superstang01 is asking about.

Personally I haven't had any problem launching on drag radials...besides not being able to get any traction - or else bogging (got that outa my system after the first time on DR's, now its just spin or slip the clutch and launch moderately).

IMO if you're gonna be drag racing a lot, just go 15's and slicks/skinnies - most aftermarket drag wheels retain their value pretty well, and you can sell off a set of used slicks for quite a bit more than a set of used drag radials.

Ah, wasn't paying attention, heh. Still, in my experience I ran 360hp with drag radials, dead hook and even bogging. Now with 410-420 I just spin (imo its because of the lack of sidewall with a 275/40/17 mt etsr on a 17x8wheel). Never broke anything, and cobra IRS held up fine with many, many trip to the strip, and stock internal stock axle held up fine for the 10-15 passes I made after dropping it in.

Benny your saying you spinning MT ET Radials? If you are you must not be heating them up enough or something because two of my friends with 03 Cobras are running them on their cars and dont even spin them. Both of them are making around 550+ rwhp too.

Also I think the Nittos would be fine for you, SuperStang, with the mods you have. BFG DRs are also good but dont last near as long.

Now if you add a blower or nitrous the Nittos suck. Im getting rid of mine a picking up a set of MT this spring.

I'm running ET street radials, not ET streets or ET drag radials - there is a huge difference. You're not even supposed to do much of a burnout with ET Street Radials anyway, but I do properly heat them, and they have been properly heat cycled. Honestly, I can launch on my 245/45 GSD3's about as well as I can on an ET street radial.

Best i ever cut on the DR's is a 1.78, and best i ever cut on my street tires is a 1.80 (and I did that about 10 passes in a row lol)... I honestly just dont' like drag radials - I like either being able to take the full hit, or just pedal the car with street tires. Moderate grip isn't my friend. Oh well, wrinkle wall slick is coming this year
