Ok this is something I would love to do in a year or two but I would like some input. I want to take my Teskid block and turn it into a 5.0 Cammer with 8.8:1 comp and forged internals and Stage III heads all from Livernois Motorsports. So I know the engine I want, but the question is the S/C. I would love a Kenne Bell twin screw, but they dont make one for the 96-98 heads that has an intercooler and besides I like the factory plenum. So I was comparing centrifigals (spelling) and wanted some input on the best one. I want to run enough boost to get 550-600 rwhp.

1.) Vortech SQ with the aftercooler, about $5000
2.) Paxton Novi 2000 with three core intercooler, about $6000 (I likey that one)
3.) Procharger with intercooler, about $5000

So in your guys experience which one would be the best bet. I like the turbo idea too, but a quality setup with great top end and verry little turbo lag would cost much more im sure:shrug:

It is a dream build but I want to keep it realistic as the engine will run about 6G's.

I would say Vortech T-trim with front mount intercooler, or intercooled Novi2k. The procharger kits leave something to be desired IMO, the fit and finish, and the ease of working on the car once it's installed are second to Vortech/Paxton systems. With a centri car, you don't wanna run 8.8:1 compression anyway, they can take a bit more than that unless you're pushing LOTS of boost; but you won't be pushing all that much boost if you only want 550-600rwhp. Personally I would just have the rods/pistons swapped out (you already have a forged crank), forget the stroker (these motors have tons of stroke already, and tons of people makes LOTS of power on 281 or 283ci oversized piston motors) and call it a day on the shortblock! That'll save you a lot of money (i.e. half lol) so you can spend more on supporting mods and a good tune. The motor is, however, going to be the weakest link and biggest bottleneck - without a built motor expect 450rwhp with whatever adder you use.

Turbo would be sweet - but but does cost alot.

That is why I want a built motor. I want it punched to a 5.0 because I will be going with a centri instead of a positive displacement and would like to have some more grunt until it builds boost. That way the car will be fun like a twin screw and have the high HP kick of a centri. I will still have plenty of power without always going to high rpms for boost. This will still be a DD and I want it to be liveable and show its tail lights to Vipers and Z-06's:D I figure if I get forged everything and go low compression with 18 lbs of boost or so, mabey I can get as high as 700 rwhp:shrug:
I only want to crack the motor open once and I figure since you are in there and paying all that labor, should spend the extra few bucks and get the best quality internals so the car can take DD abuse without a hiccup. The car is extreamly reliable now and I want to double th HP and keep it just as reliable.

Does that sound plausable?

sounds like your moving toward the setup im trying to get installed within the next 2 weeks. im excited about it but im starting to wonder if the stroker will still give it a bit of a lowend kick myself. some say you will have a decent lowend and some say i wont notice much.

i think it has to do with how low you make the compression. if you go too low i think you will lose the low end grunt of the stroker. my engine is being built with 9.2:1 compression. my tuner dont want it that high and wants to drop it to around 9. to run the 15psi.

i dont even think i will get 15psi this time around with the pulley size i got and all the flow mods and intercooler. however, i will get the 15psi eventually but i dont think i need that low of compression. id like to keep it where its at for the low end power. if he does drop it he will just use a thicker head gasket. but i want to try to run the 15psi on the 9.2:1 compression.

my only thing is i do have the novi and might want to raise the boost to 18psi some day and i dont want the engine torn apart again to do it either.....sounds like we are contemplating the same thing

The novi2000 would be more feasible for 600whp. The S-trim can do it, but it will be on its limits. So you could get the novi or maybe a T-trim. A used kit would be your best bet. Personally, I wouldn't spend 6 grand on a new kit, because head units are fairly simple to rebuild.

edit: this belongs in tech lol

18lbs is a lot of boost on 9.2:1 . Hell, my 2000gt has 9:1 compression. I think 8.5:1 would be perfect for a boosted motor.

did u go to the kennebell website, im pretty sure they make a supercharger for that model, cause they had an application for my 98 GT

Believe me, I have spent countless hours drooling over their stuff. They make a nice kit for B head Cobras, just not with an intercooler. I would have to switch to C heads and then the custom work to relocate the alt and all the little things to make it work. The other thing is I think the 96-98 Cobra engines are the nicest looking engines ever put in a Ford and I want to keep the plenum.

that is a nice looking intake! part of the reason i went centri was because i like how the p51 intake look and will be adding that down the road....cant do that with the kb!

yea i know that 18psi would be a bit high for 9.2 compression. i guess i will let him lower the compression a little but i dont want to go under 9. i may never run the 18psi...i might stick with 15.
