Drivers side head removal HELP!!!!

:damnit: I've been trying for the last two days to get the drivers side off of the engine. I can seem to get the damn powersteering and Ac compressor off of the bracket so that I can pull it out. Is there some kind of trick to this that I am missing . I've already rounded off one of the mounting bracket bolts trying to get the damn thing out . Its really starting to piss me off . If you guys got any suggestions I'm listening

Pull the PS. pulley off then you'll be able to get to all of your bolts to get that bracket off... Dont think you need to remove the actual PS pump and AC compressor off of the bracket.

Use a PS. pulley puller to get the pulley off... Local parts store should have one.

Ditto although I can get mine off now with out it, I forgot what I did but I can slowly back out that middle bolt and then the whole bracket comes off. I think I mixed some bolts around or something tho.

I ment to drill out one of thoes holes on the outter side of the PS pulley so I can get to the bolts that hold the actual pump in place so I could just take that off instead of pulling that damn pulley because its a bitch to get off.

I pulled the ps pulley off but the problem is that the last bolt for the bracket has been rounded off. so every damn socket I put on it wont stay it just spins off if I give it any kind of torque. Its the bolt that is right behind the pulley that you cant get to unless you pull the pully off. Any suggestions

cut the head off. pull the bracket off and then go get a new bolt.

I rounded a bolt over when doing my gears. So I picked up a kit at Sears (turns out that any big box hardware store or auto parts store will have it too). It's a socket kit made of hardened metal that cuts into the rounded over bolt head.

That might be easier than cutting it out. Anyway, I would start with that, and cut it out if you have to.

getting it back on is a lot easier... last time i had my pulley off it was in 5 pieces because we had to cut it off... never had to cut it to put it back on.

Get that kit that's supposed to turn rounded bolt heads when they are stripped. Sears sells them.

If that doesn't work, you can try a really big set of vice grips, lock onto it HARD, and try that. But my guess is it will be easier to cut the head off, remove bracket, then use vice grips on the shaft section of the bolt to back it out.

I've had pretty good luck with easy outs. Another thing you can do is use a flat sharp edge punch (dont know the techinical name for it) and whack it with a hammer and try and get it to turn I've used that method more times than I ve cared too. I just don't know how well you'll be able to get in there if its still in the car

I thought about that a while back but was afraid the pulley would become out of balance and do damage to the pump.

What are your thoughts about it?

btw, I found the correct puller for less than $20 and it works like a champ for putting it on and taking it off.

Not likely. Balancer pullers are really only meant for that one purpose.

I have that set, it's nice and $10 is a deal. Not for pulling a dampner though, but you can rent those from auto-parts stores.
