Driveshaft Safety Loop? R They a need?

When was the last time you heard of a Mustang breaking a drive shaft and putting it through the floor?

If whatever sanctioned race level of competition requires it, then fine, but for your average bolt on driver, it's a waste of money. Might as well put a parachute on that back and install a cage while you're at it. :rlaugh:

If you really must have one, then buy the cheapest one of the bunch and feel good about it.

I just got one from upr. I ordered some rear suspension stuff so I figured I might as well order it now all in one shot. Seems worth it to me for $37.

Much like steel bellhousings, its not something you "need" but you just never know especially if you race the car and launch hard.

Agian I HOPING. I have seen videos of f bodys and mullets boxs blowing them out. Since I was doing all of this I was going to do it .Just didn't know which one to do.

They're only about $45.00, and I believe that they are a required safety item if you're running 12.99 or quicker. I bought one, but I haven't installed it yet.
that is correct,i was forced to put one on my vert to play at the track, some people do more then pollish there cars and look at em in the driveway so i say go for it 50 bucks is less then a night at the bar and it really sucks making a trip to the dragstrip only to be told ya cant run.

I seen a nice show truck do a burn out after the show and break the drive shaft. MESSY it took out his stainless dual exhaust, mangled the gas tank and ripped a bunch of lines out and I'm sure there was alot more damage that was just from what I could see.

Get One!! I have seen the destruction myself! guy was making little under 360 horespower D/S snapped went throught the floor, took out the center console, a little skin off the guys arm and rupsured his fuel tank starting, luckily, a quickly controlled fire. Mine cost $35. $35 to possibly save my life? done!!!

My buddy old z28, stock from 1980 so like 180hp...his ds **** on him. Ripped apart his 1 month old exhaust system he put on it. Banged up some of his brand new floor pans...really sucked and he only put in drive from park. (of course chevy drivelines are brutal from what i have been in contact with)

PPS. get the D/S saftey loop or make one :nice:

NHRA rules say it has to be mounted within 6 inches of the front u-joint. On a Mustang it is most commonly mounted 4 inches behind the front joint. Also it is required if your running 13.99 or faster on slicks, or 13.00or faster on DOT tires
