Go ahead, call me cheaky
This pertaines to my 1985 f150 with a 8.8 inch rear end but same system as all classic stangs....

Today i was replacing my ebrake cables and while i was reasembling my brakes i noticed the contact points between the backing plates and the brake shoes are seriously worn.... there are deep groves in them from years and years and miles and miles of wear... what is the danger in this?? what is a fix for this??? i thought about grinding them flat but there isnt much metal to work with on those backing plates.... i did as i usally do and wire wheeled the contact points and applied a little anti seize compound to them....

any tips or tricks boys???

b.t.w. the brakes work and act just fine as it sits right now.....

Whenever I encounter this on a drum brake system I simply take the 90 degree die grinder with 2 inch roloc grinding discs and smooth the whole area down until the ridges are gone and the area is flat again. Then I paint it and when totally dry I cover the area with silicone brake grease and reinstall the brake shoes and eveything is good for another 100K miles. If the pads are severely worn I usually build the area back up with weld then grind it down flat again.
