DTC 0507 After Granatelli 62mm TB Install

I just installed a GMS 62mm twin throttle body on my 07 GT 5spd. The rpms level off at about 1050 rpm. Before the install the car idled around 800 rpm. I'm getting a fault code of 0507. Does anyone know what this trouble code means? Any info and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks all, Chris

No surprise. DT code P0507 is Idle Control System- RPM Higher Than Expected.

Aftermarket TB are a PITB and Granatelli is one of the worst out there.

Figures. This was my 3rd throttle body and none of them have worked properly on my ride. These things are such a pain in the ass and arent worth the headaches. The car seems to run ok but the rpms are like 250 higher at idle? So stupid that these companies come out to the market with a shat product like that. GMS Throttle Body

when you purchased the new TB did it come with a new TP sensor our you used our old one

Yank that thing out of there. I was amazed to look through the ads in my MMFF the other day, and see a dealer claiming 8 to 10 hp out of a TB. I about blew coke out my nose. I've personally seen them dynoed on n/a cars, and they make AT MOST 2 hp, and the vast majority of people have nothing but problems worth them. I'm all for every pony counts, but not when it could potentially cause problems. They are not worth it. Get your stock one powder-coated or polished if you want something that looks cool.

I reused the stock TPS. It doenst say anywhere in the instructions that you need to replace that. I dont think there is anything wrong with either sensor on the TB because when I hook the stock TB back up it works fine. One other thing I'm getting much more air sucked through my MMR CAI. It sounds really loud now, almost to loud and annoying. Car does seem to have more power and responsiveness but the rpm thing is annoying. And if that check engine light keeps coming on thats going to annoy the hell out of me. Thanks for you opinions.

You'd be better off just putting the stocker back on and call it a day. Guys making over 1000 rwhp are still using the stocker without a problem.

GMS/TB

About your problem with the engine lite and the high idle, Monday when i get to the shop i will look at some of our past installs and let you know whats needed to correct the problem. Some times a simple adjustment of your TPS will do it. Once it's calibrated you will feel the difference. I will post in evening, I will get you back on track.

If theres something you can help me with I'm all ears. I would hate to just waste 2 TB's costing me around 700 dillies. I took the GMS off and re-installed the stock and the car is fine but does feel a bit slower. The GMS idled around 1050 and made tons of noise when driving and also threw the check engine light when driving. Tons of extra air being sucked in and definite increase in power. I feel however the costs outweigh the benefit right now. Help would be great.

I still have the stock TB on my 07 GT, but my DiabloSport Predator tuner allows me to change the idle rpm in drive and also in neutral. If you have a tuner, then the first thing to try is to lower your idle with the tuner and see if that stops the codes.

I did try to lower the idle with my tuner. I set it to 700 from 800 but nothing happened. It still idles around 1050 and throws the check engine light. Thanks for the thoughts and opinions.

Did you have Brent update your tune? If the TB is actually taking more air in, the tune would have to be updated to compensate for it. Just like when you get a larger MAF housing.

I've seen people making 500rwhp with the stock throttle body.
For the life of me I don't know why people are changing them unless your making monster power

Because a couple companies are claiming up to 10HP gains and the swap is so simple. Anyone who's never read the tech boards on a message board wouldn't know any better. I have yet to see a dyno sheet showing even a 3HP gain on an n/a engine from an unbiased source.

I talked directly to Brent at Brenspeed and he told me I didnt need to change anything with the tune. He said that they dont update the tunes for a TB unleess in some supercharged and turbo applications it is required. I feel it only makes sense that the extra air being sucked into the engine is causing this higher rpm. I'm really disappointed about this because I did notice a definite increase in power. Now that I took it off I can feel that I did loose some power. I'm going to have to get the car dyno tuned soon and just wanted an extra 2hp or whatever this thing would add in conjunction with all my other mods. I guess that aint gonna happen because its not worth the hassle of having to erase that damn DTC every time I drive the car. Later, Chris

Do you have a local dyno/tuner shop you can go to and get a custom tune? I like Brent and Doug, but sometimes their answers to those questions don't seem right. They say I don't need to update for my off road pipe, but then other technically inclined people like Jen say it's necessary. I'm getting dyno tuned by Bob Kurgan on 9/29 and being done with it.

GMS TB FIX

As I promised, What you have is simple fix, you need to index your blades. When you swapped the original parts over to your new TB when installing the motor you probably forgot to index the throttle blades. No biggie if your not doing them every day, well Go to Granatelli Motors Sports Web site, click onto TECH SUPPORT, look for INSTRUCTION MANUALS, then scroll down to FORD MUSTANG THROTTLE BODY INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. follow these instructions and you should have no more problems. Leave me a note and let me know how you make out.

Unfortunately I did index the blades. I actually tried indexing them in about 4 or 5 different positions because none of them were working. Sometimes the car would start and die and sometimes I would get the problem I'm having now. Also, Darkfire, I do have a custom SCT tuner in my area. I'm trying to make an appointment with him soon. The tunes I got from Doug at Bama and Brent at Brenspeed are good but I know with a custom dyno tune there is more power to be had. Later
