Welp, got the car dynoed with the new cam and lifters. With everything else the same, I gained about 100 hp, making 531 rwhp and 544 rwtq. Needless to say, I'm pleased. Come the end of the summer, I'll have the smaller pulley installed and hopefully I'll get 600 at the rear wheels.

Right after, I started my drive home from Colorado Springs to Boise, Idaho. Everything was going well, 10mpg gas mileage, until around Green River, Wyoming, I hit a piece of metal on the road and it put a 7 inch gash in the gas tank...I just filled up too. Anywho, stayed there a night and $800 later, I had a new tank and was on the road again. No more issues after that.

Going from 7,000 ft altitude down to 2,500 ft also provided quite a kick in the pants. Its crazy, I can't get any traction in 1st or 2nd gear with 3.08 gears whereas before I could only get the tires to chirp.

Just thought I'd share. :nice:

wow that's quite a gain. i'm not surprised though because that cam was really holding you back. is the new cam also a flat tappet? what are the specs on the cam?

i hope it is not unsafe. it would suck losing traction going around a curve and flying off the road into a tree or something

we are going to have to be really careful when the streets are wet

Congrats on the gain :nice:

About that 10 mpg

I gotta believe you were enjoying some of that new found ... get up and go :D

If you stay at a steady highway cruise kinda thing ...........
I'd think you would do much better

Now ... when you wanna play ... 60's can be quite thirsty :(

And I thought my 30's were bad :rlaugh:

Yeah, I was wondering about the 10 mpg thing too. I was going 80 mph with the cruise control on, with the stock 3.08 gears and the .64 5th gear TKO 600. A little later today I'll try to post pictures of the A/F ratio graph. He said that it was a very safe tune.

As far as the amount of boost, at the rpm for the max hp, it was putting down 9 lbs of boost. It was reaching 10 lbs, but after the power started to go down.

New cam is hydraulic roller as opposed to the old mechanical flat tappet. I used those uber-expensive link-bar lifters from Crane Cams. I'll post some pictures of the specs when I get some pictures of the dyno graphs.

Just thinking out loud here but ..........

a tall gear like that
the wind resistance of 80 mph

Both could kinda set you up for a fairly high load condition
so
You might be in Open Loop
and
If he set up the fuel table kinda fat ;)

It very well could use a good amount of fuel

The whole deal would be ........
what af ratio you got while cruising at 80 mph

Then again ... if you were dumping gas all over the highway
