Got the car on the dyno this morning. First run without the chip, I made 340RWHP and 367Torque.Then I made a run with the chip and I made 346WRHp and 378Torque. The chip is a off the shelf Diablo.I am going to try and scan my dyno sheets and post them here.I think there is a little more to be had if I would play with the timing and A/F a little more.Still not too bad for a car with working A/C and smog all hooked up. One thing that I need help trying to figure out though is I get tip in detonation around 1500 to 2100 rpm. If I am just crusing. I put the new ACT on a couple days ago, but it is still there. This is with the chip installed and at 8* of inital timing. Without the chip I can run 12 to 14* without the detonation. But I still make more power with the chip at 8*. I will post the slips when I figure out how.I know one problem is I am getting 18:1 A/F at idle to 1800. Then it dips right down to 13.1 at 1900. Dont know how to get that a little better at idle. Also that is with or without the chip.

WoW! No comments?? Do you think if I unplug the 02's it might give me a more rich condition at idle? Do you think it is a problem with my mass air? I just cleaned it a couple days ago. It is definently lean, because if I am idleing sometimes and hit gas it will pop through the intake.

Those are good numbers. . You could try telling Diablo what your AF/R is under cruising and see if they can richen it up.

I have 30lb injectors, 80mm mass air, 70mm T/B, fluidyne radiator complete roller setup, with 1.6 roller rockers. still have not figured out how to get this scanner to work,I will though and will post my sheets. That might help you in helping me.

This is common and at low rpm's & light load conditions and then you go to wot with the stock pcm. It takes a while to go from such a lean af to get to a safer af and it can be fixed with chip/tuner device.

You think I would be better off unplugging the 02's till I get the chip reburned? This i believe would force the computer to richen up under idle and light cruzing.because it will automatically add fuel, and should not effect my WOT cause o2's are not used in WOT, BUT will it cause my eec to go into limp mode even though I have a chip installed? Thanks for all the replies.

Now that I see it's a 351, does anyone else agree with me that that should be making more power than 350?

Do you think I am missing some power somewhere? It would be nice to gain a little. Any ideas? i figured it was about right for as conservitive as a combo I went with with the heads and cam. Do you think the stock 94 cobra computer is holding me back some? Also I have all my air conditioning and smog all hooked up and working, figured that might be costing me 10hp or so. I also thought if I bring up the voltage on my TPS to about 1V. it might richen me up at idle, I am currently at .88V. Will take any suggestions.
Thanks, Phil.

340 RWHP equals roughly 425 flywheel hp with a 20% drivetrain loss! Those number sound about right for a NA 351. I'm sure a CUSTOM chip would yeild more hp. Have you thought about a Tweecer or PMS? I thought the custom chip was the route to go, but after reading up on the PMS, you can tune it yourself and have the flexibility to change without getting a reburn!

a little off topic... But what were some of your biggest problems putting this motor in your car or did it come with a 351? I am doing a 418 build up right now and want to know what to expect...

BTW... I also think the power your making is pretty decent, especially for everything being off the shelf for the most part. Anytime you get 1 rwhp for every cubic inch your doing pretty good NA.

A different cam would help you pick up ALOT of power! Bigger TB too.

The motor was in it when I bought it.But I have tore it down to the short block.I have changed heads and cam. I have run into no real problems, other than this lean condition at idle.

What is your car? EDIT - nevermind i see your name -

Did it come that way from the factory with the 351?

Also i have the opposite problem with my car... It runs so rich at idle that the wideband couldn't even pick up the AFR. That and every monning it fouls plugs and takes a little while to clean itself out...

I suggest to take it to a dyno shop that can tune the chip right there... Or spend the money for a pms like im doing...

No it came with factory 5.0L cobra. Yea soon as I get some more $$ I am going to get the chip reburned or get something like a tweecer. I may call diablo and see what they have to say. Maybe i can send them my dyno sheet and they can adjust my chip.

Im a little confused, because Ive read a lot where guys are getting close to 400 at the wheels with the right 331 combo. I thought for sure you could get 400 easily with a 351
