E-303 Running tooooo rich

I installed an E-303 cam and ever since the car has been running extremely rich. I currently have no cats on the car but due to emissions i'm about to put high flow cats on in about a week, so need an answer or else i'm destined to burn out my new cats. I have several mods done to the car but none affected the air/fuel except the cam. To my knowledge, the computers in the SN-95 don't take too well to modifications. Short of buying a tweecer, what can I do to fix my air/fuel problem????
 
kirban fuel pressure regulator. can tune it to pretty much whatever you want. my car still runs a lil rich at idle but runs pretty clean at WOT. like if i let her idle for about 5 min and check the plugs, they are kinda dirty and you can smell it....at WOT they are just a tad darkened :)
 
with that cam, im sure you have after market exhaust and possibly headers. i wouldnt reccomend getting high flow cats for an emissions inspection, i would get a stock H-pipe with the 4 restrictive cats,and with your cam it will be easier for you to fail than pass. ide go with a stocker

I've got 1 5/8 shorties, offroad H, and magnaflow catback. I have the stock H pipe but unfortunately PA has enstated emissions laws for all counties. Now using the stock pipe would work.....but if you get pulled over for a noise complaint, the state will issue a $3000 fine and will tow your car on the spot. So I bought a Magnaflow stainless H with the high flow cats. I also plan on using the Lucas fuel treatment to help me pass. I'm not really worried about emissions at this point. I am however worried that since my car is running so rich that as soon as I put the cats on I'm going to burn them out instantly(rich to the point where I can get fireballs to come out of the back every once and a while). So in addition to a fuel pressure regulator what else can I do?

Give yourself an "accidental" exhaust leak. But really, with stock cats you can get away with a lot, as long as the ratiois pretty good.


thanks but I need to FIX THE RATIO not cause exhaust leaks on a 900+ dollar exhaust system. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER???? All I want is some suggestions for correcting air/fuel ratio.....the only suggestion is an adjustable pressure regulator.....anybody fix it with timing? ANYTHING HELP!!!
 
i personally think a fpr will be your answer. list all your mods here...everything. with all that i have, i run at about 41psi and its a tad rich but it runs strongest there. not higher or lower. i run 92 octane but occasionall 87 when im broke cause i dont get any pinging with 87 but run better with 92-93.

the only other thing thats really gonna fix your a/f ratio is to have more air coming in but the computer will compensate more for that too. get a fpr and fiddle with it....might have to get on a dyno to find whats perfect for you but you can go by smell/feel for now
 
Ok, here's the mods. I know I should make a signature, but I'm lazy. BBK cold air, MAC underdrives, stock TB and mass air, Edelbrock Performer RPM, 120 lb progressive rate Comp Cams valve springs, hardened pushrods, E-303 cam, BBK 1 5/8 shorty headers, Magnaflow stainless H-pipe, Magnaflow catback with Magnapack resonators, and 3.73's. Thats everything I can think of right now
 
i personally think that performer rpm is way too much for your semi stock car. usually that intake is used on a car with some nice heads and more airflow comin in (maf and tb). i think you need to look into a fpr and maybe getting a lower edelbrock intake that is more for a street car. just my opinion tho
 
I've been keeping in touch with a local engine builder and he said that with my smaller throttle body the effects of the shorter runners (which the RPM has to create hp at higher RPM's) will counteract with each other and create more torque at lower RPM's, but creating less hp at high RPM's that would normally be generated with a larger throttle body and some nice heads. I would have liked to do with the performer or the RPM II but I got offered a price I couldn't refuse, so I got what I got. Maybe I can do some head work to my stockers and get a line on some cobra injectors/computer/mass air in addition to the fpr. I appreciate your input though, and anything else you could suggest would be helpful, thanks!
 
I was going to say the same about the Performer RPM being A LOT for your set-up. I have the same problem of my car running pretty rich too. I have a FP gauge and it's all over the place - from mid 20's to 38 or so. Is that a FP regulator problem? So the adjustable FPR can make more power and lean it out a little to solve our problems?? For running rich like us - do you raise the FP or lower it?

95stocker ... are you getting a bunch of black on the tailpipes, or is it more of the rich gassy smell, or black smoke when you accelerate hard? I just have the rich smell and a little blacker than normal on the tails.
