E brake problem

Hey Guys,

Ive read several threads about how to fix your e brake, but nothing has helped me. I just bought my first 89 coupe and took it straight to the inspection place. everything passes, but not my e brake. I took the car and had a full brake job done and the guy said my e brake was fixed, but when i got home and tried it, the brake still didnt hold. I need some advise so i can get my car through inspection. any help at all..

Tell ya what,i dont know where you took it to but they should repair it for free,but if not.Pop the drums off and at the bottom of the shoes there is a round adjuster wheel that adjust the shoes further out or in just turn it one way or the other to adjust the shoes OUT and keep checking the fitment with the drums to make sure you dont get them to tight.Check and see if that helped,it should,then on top of that there is a nut on a threaded rod at the base of the e-brake handle,you can adjust there to,just make it a last resort if you can.

or just take the small rubber plug out on the back side of the backing plate and adjust the adjuster with a flat screwdriver in the hole.... you want it to just start to drag.

The stock handbrake sucks, the cables have stretched over time and the best badaid you can do for now is to adjust the rear brakes and see if that helps.
