E-Cam, Low Vacum, Horrible Brakes = HELP

Guys,

I have a E303 cam in my AODE car. The car had no brake problems before I installed the new motor. Now, when just backing the car up while idling, the brake goes almost completely to the floor before I feel the brakes catching.

I tested it and the vac = 8-10lbs at a 900rpm idle.

When stopping from 50mph, the brakes are better but they are still allot worse then they used to be with the stock 302. I know a cam like the E303 lows vacum, but if it effects the brakes on a SN95 to this extent, I won't have gotten it.

What should the Vac be lbs_wise with the E303 ???
Is there anything I can do to get better brakes ???
Has anyone else with the E303 in a SN95 experienced this problem ??

Well, I can't testify to what the vacume pressure should be with an e303, but I can say that I found NO degradation in braking after my e303 install. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

Sounds like there might vacume leak. You can get a vacume can from jegs for $35. The can will store vacume for the brakes. It's a jegs part # 555-63010.

Ya you must have a bad leak somewhere??....my Steeda 19 pulls 17lbs at idle for comparision...

maybe its just an automatic thing? Since auto cars are loaded at idle in gear.. and stick cars are not.. I know I seen an increase in vacuum when i threw it in nutrual at stop lights.

WHen I had the E303 I had the exact problems, and hated them.. thats why I got rid of the cam. Atleast try out the vacuum canister and see if it doesnt help the brakes.

Yes I did.. I got used to it for the time I had the cam.

Don't know if this will help your situation , but a friend of mine had that problem in a 302 bronco.
Tried everything, the thing that helped the most was to drill a small hole on the butterfly on his T/B one on top one on bottom. It didnt cure it, but it helped.

Figured if the can doesnt work you could try it.

Vacuum canister is probably going to be your best bet. They aren't very expensive either.

But you may have a vacuum leak. You might want to check out your vacuum lines and ntake manifold for leaks.

Checked everything for leaks.

In Park, Vac = 11 lbs.
In Drive, Vac = 8 lbs.

I think I need a vac canister.

I can't tell you exact vac numbers, but I know that I've got as good of brakes with the 5.0 with the e303 (and 1.7 ratio rockers) as I had with the 3.8 stock. Good Luck!!

if the pedal goes to the floor most definetly not a vaccuum issue. low vac will cause a high hard pedal, gotta be a fluid issue
