Hey Guys,

I have an 89 LX 5.0. It has:
GT40 heads
Edelbrock intake
75mm tb
Upgraded injectors/fuel system
Shorty headers (bbk)
Bbk cai
Open exhaust into 40 mufflers
4.11s

I'm looking for a cam that is comfortable o the street, but slopes really hard. I know this sounds funny, but I would sacrifice some small HP for a good hard thump.

Is a e303 with 1.7s my best bet? They hardly lope....

I'm also new to cams, do I need new pushrods, springs, everything, or just 1.7rr and the cam?

Thanks,

Patrick Hamil

The Ford Racing alphabet cams are old as dirt and most here wouldn't use one if it were given to us. There are much better options.

Steeda #18
Trick Flow stage 1
Anderson N41
Comp XE264HE

Are all way better than a E cam. With the Comp being closest to stock driveablity due to its 114* LSA

Also the RR ratio depends on the cam you use.
The Steeda is for use with 1.7s and the others are designed for 1.6s.

Thanks guys! As I said, new to cams, so love all of the advice. I'm going to research the above options (minus the vacuum line, lol).

Do I need to replace anything other than the rockers and cam for this?

Depends. You may need to replace the springs if the cam is too aggressive or the springs are already junk. Also you may need new pushrods(the above cams should use stock length).

It would be good to replace the timing chain, the lifters are subjective, but not a bad idea, it will only hurt your wallet but just slightly, the more you drive around with the new setup the less you will notice the pain, that is untill you have to buy rear tires! :burnout:

Dang, I think Im too late to the party. I just bought a TFS1 cam a month ago, and will not be using it after all (bought a whole used engine). Havent tried to return in, but would be willing to give it to you for $50 off the price of new if you want it.
