E7 Powerheads vs. Aluminum Heads, What would I gain?

I am currently running the following:

302
E7 Powerheads - CNC Ported
Crane 1.6 RR
Camshaft Innovations Custom Cam 520/520 lift
TMoss Ported Upper/Lower Stock Intake
70mm MAF
19's
AOD / Lentech Street Terminator / Edge 3200 Stall
4.10's

I am thinking of going with a small 5-6 psi supercharger (Powerdyne or Novi 1000) or with a set of aluminum heads and intake package. I can only do one or the other and was leaning towards the heads.

I have researched the flow numbers on the Powerheads and some of the popular Aluminum Heads and it seems that the Powerheads flow fairly well which is making me consider the SC instead now.

Here are some numbers I have found. So what will I gain by going to aluminum heads other than the weight savings?

POWERHEADS:
100 64 63
200 123 110
300 175 151
400 204 170
500 217 175
600 N/R

TRICKFLOW STREETHEAT
100 72 48
200 138 78
300 181 100
400 207 125
500 220 135
600 230 140

AFR 165
100 N/R
200 123 118
300 186 153
400 225 178
500 250 185
600 250 191

AFR 185
100 N/R
200 129 118
300 189 153
400 224 178
500 267 185
600 282 191

FRPP GT40X
100 65 52
200 126 105
300 172 145
400 202 149
500 216 149
600 215 149

The AFR 185's make a pretty good jump in the 400 - 500 lift range, but if the cam has 520 lift and through the valve event, spends more time between 300 - 400 lift than at max lift, will it really be worth it?

Not pretending to know anything here, legitimately looking for answers and help understanding.

Thanks.

You can't tell just by looking at flow numbers. You will need some other mods to get any gains out of a large head. Does the 302's pistons going to clear for a 2.02 valve? If you want more power, I would suggest a poweradder or more bottom end.

The pistons I have are Probe forged srs units that will clear a 2.05 valve.

Not sure what other mods I would need for the larger head, already have a cam, MAF, TB, exhaust, gears, converter, Good pistons, ect. an intake would go with the heads as stated above, What else is left?

Now that I read your sig, you have a pretty decent setup. Head would probally help, but I think you'll need to do something about the intake and TB, maby even some longtubes would really put in some kick. You have a custom cam for your setup, so it won't have the same benifit with a different setup. You could try to sell your current heads, cam, and intake, and get a whole new setup. AFR's are probally the ideal head, they always seem to have the best results. 165's unless you are going to really rev it, then 185's. I think your best bang for the buck would be a supercharger, turbo, or nitrous.

Probably 35+ rwhp more in it for you with better heads and a better intake.

I used to be into flow numbers, and in the real world, they don't really mean much. Besides i've seen so many inconsistant numbers.

Powerheads are likely one of the Best E7 setups, but still far from TW's or afrs.

Do you have any track #'s for what you have?

Not yet, its going to the dyno in 2 weeks and maybe the track in the same time frame.

Yeah, I am starting to lean back towards the SC again and some better valve springs which I think I need right now.

I am running powerheads, 1.7 rockers, typhoon intake, 70mm throttle body, 42# injectors and 1-5/8" bkk shorties. With my 302 shortblock, stock cam, and 10psi from a SC-Trim (small supercharger) I made 405rwhp,

I recently added a Crane 2031 cam, 331 stroker, and better mufflers and hoping for around 450rwhp @ 8-9 psi.

I would keep the heads you got since they will easily support enough horsepower to break your block in half. Go with the charger!!!! I will also agree to get some good springs on there. I ordered mine with the dual spring setup.

Yes, most aftermarket aluminum heads will out perform powerheads no problem, but they work good for what they are and are defiantly a great improvement over stock.

Procharger is too expensive for me. The entry level Powerdyne and Novi are both about 1700.00 and I have Mike Murillos shop about 5 miles away to take care of the tune for me when its done so it should be pretty good.

I find that Powerdyne is a love / hate company. I read about the SC. its 200.00 more, what if anything makes it better than say the Novi 1000 which is 1700.00. I am assuming you don't like the belt issues of the Powerdyne. Not looking for the cheapest, just curious what makes the SC worth 200 more when it advertises the same boost levels and included components.
