Easy way to remove a clutch pedal

I need to remove the clutch pedal on a 68 coupe. with the clip removed i cant get the shaft to slide all the way out due to interferance with the e brake and a plastic vent assembly. is there an easy way to get this out, should i drop the streering column and unbolt the suport and remove it as an assembly?

It's better to remove the whole thing, bracket and all that way you can inspect the pedal support bushings for excessive wear and determine if they need changing. After 30 something years, they likely do need to be replaced, afterall they're just made from pot metal.
