Good advise everyone. Maybe I'll get lucky and a donor will show up at one of the local junk yards.

I'm the original owner of an 89 5.0 LX, 5 speed. It has low milage, but as I'd like to keep it for a while, thought it would be a good idea to accumulate some spare parts while they're still available. One of these spares would be an ECU. The original part number is E9ZF-12A650-A2A. Some vendors have these, but they're over $700. I've found another less expensive one with a part number of E9ZF-12A650-AA. Would anyone know if these are interchangeable? Thanks for any help.

I had that same mindset and not for over 4 years the spare sits in a guncase along with a tuning chip installed......LOL

All I know is that from what I read both ECUs are both A9L...

I have 3 A9Ls. One is my original, known good spare on the shelf. Two has a Quarterhorse plugged in. So, I can just plug and play it into the stock harness connector and tune any car I want to. 3rd takes a J3 chip and it's what I use daily... at least in theory. I never took my quarterhorse one out of the car. Still plan to... eventually.

Now I see why these are hard to find - LOL! I did note that ECU's with a CA suffix can be found. I think those are for automatic transmissions though. I've read that these can be used, but I'm going to hold out for the right one.
