I saw a mention on here a few weeks ago that Edelbrock had updated their head casting and it is VERY inline with the flow rates of the AFR heads. Ive been researching heads and I think I am going to go with a low cost build up, which the Edelbrocks fit perfectly.

What are everyones opinions on the Edelbrock heads??? What are the differences between the Victor Jr. heads and the Performer, Performer RPM, and Performer RPM II heads????

Performer = 1.90" intake valve
Performer RPM = 2.02" intake valve
Victor Jr. = 2.05" intake valve

The Performers and RPMs are smog legal, the Vic. Jrs. are not.

The Performer RPM will clear on a stock shortblock 302 but you are going to have to rev the car past 6200 to see where the extra money was spent.

The Performer heads are the best way to go. I got mine last week from Powered by Ford and they look like an excellent head. Stainless, polished valves, CNC'd, very nice work. The runners are shaped nicely, and all the ports are opened up evenly.

I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet, but I think I'll be able to run with that guy in the yellow AFR headed convertible. :D

Man, it sucks having a target on my back!!! Maybe we can have a heads up showdown at the SSOTN fall Nat's Joe! That is when I plan to go all out and run what I know it can run. I plan to come home with a new signature update!!!

Are the new E-brocks CNC'd like the AFR's?

correct... The RPM head can be had in 2.02 or 1.90 valve... Only diference between the RPM and the Performer head is the Performer is the Smog legal head.. RPM is not.
The RPM head is not nessarly a higher RPM head, IE, they dont raise the usuable powerband up any higher then a Performer head, ( unless u go with the 2.02 valve)

They are very nice heads for the money though.. I run the "new" RPM heads.

You guys are right. I didn't do my homework before I posted. The Performers are available in 1.90 and 2.02 valves, as are the RPMs.

The intake runners in the Eddys are a little rough (in texture) and shaped very nicely. I'm not sure what the AFR runners are like (probably very nice). The exhaust ports are identical on both the AFR and Eddy. The intake runners are 5cc bigger, favoring Edelbrock, so I think they make for a very evenly matched comparison.

Paul, I sure hope my car is running well by the time the Fall SSOTNs come. I'm going to run the car on slicks with a powershifted T5 and stock axles and see how long it lasts :). I'm hoping to make it to the SSOTN without breaking :rlaugh:. See you at the Grove...

Muscle Mustangs and fast Fords did an extensive dyno flog on most of the popular heads for the 5.0 recently, and it's great reading for those that are looking to buy heads, the AFR 165s out flowed and outperformed all the heads in their category size, but the revised Edelbrocks were'nt out yet so they could'nt compare them at the time,Edelbrock is a good choice I almost went with them, but I did a dual exhaust on a 70 Mustang for a guy who owns a shop and got a deal on the AFRs. :D

I hear alot of good things about the new Ebrocks as well.
I run the old Performers and they have treated me good (for 900$), but I finally had to open them up abit, so we'll see how they do.

Joe... did you have PBF port them??? Did they do any work on them at all???

How much did they get them to you for???
PBF didn't do any work to them. They are box stock.

They didn't charge me for shipping because they thought they still had 2 sets in. When they found out they didn't, I had to wait 3 months. Even Summit had delays. Come to find out, Edelbrock was on a nationwide backorder. PBF called me and gave me an opportunity to cancel my order or they would refund my shipping charges and I could wait. I had them refund the shipping charges, so my total price to my door was $995. I had a great experience with them...

i have the old school performer heads for a long time now im very pleased with them. i had them ported out actually by Tony Mamo he works for afr now he designed their bb chevy heads. well anyway me and him were talking one day he had just done a set with the 202 valves and he said mine outflowed them by almost 20 cfm (I have the 190 valves) so if your going na you might wanna look at the 190 valved heads to keep the velocity up.
