EEC-IV vs. EEC-V

Another one of my CRAZY questions.


What do you think the pro's and con's would be by moving on to an EEC-V setup? In searching, I have found nobody that has done this (maybe for a reason?). The only swaps I have seen were one's going back in time (A9L).



In case you are wondering why I asked this .... I still have ALL the wiring and harness that I got with my '97 Mountaineer engine, computer and all. Just curious is all. Sounds like it would be a massive headache, though. Especially since it is flashed for automatic tranny.

not a crazy idea.. I originally was going to do this for my wifes car to run the Coil On Plug ignition. I may down the road go to it. Besides possibly better emissions I don't know why to upgrade. Like I mentioned I was going to use a 03 GT Computer to run the coil on plug but also to run the 4R70W tranny thats behind it... But right now its completly wired for the EEC IV... I don't know alot about the EEC 5 systems yet. I have been reading up on them.. I wouldn't use the mountaineer setup though..

Yes I agree also,nothing crazy about it. Just depends on how bad you want it. It would basically be like going from an old pentium 3 processor to a pentium 4.

Just wondering .... why not? It came on a 5.0. Wouldn't that be better than attempting the 4.6 convo?

I wasn't looking to do the DIS .... but that is a very cool idea. I hope you do it someday and post pics .... for the COOL factor.

Reason why I would use the Mustang Wiring is do to simplisity.. If you get a 94-95 V6 Computer harness (which I have a few laying around) you won't have to do alot of pin swapping. There will still be some but no where the modificiation and splicing you would have to do with with the Explorer/Mountanier wiring. Heres my setup and it runs and drived good (car is back apart). I used a 95 V6 computer Harness which is OBD2. I converted it to OBD 1 for the sack i wanted the DIS module hookup. Then I swapped a few pins around on the injector harness block so everything matched up. Then from there I went nuts since I used an 03 GT injector harness do to the Coil On plug wiring is on it.

I could make you the harness and you would need to run a 96-98 Computer but if I was you and this is just me. I would at least convert to a coil pack setup like the 4.6L's thru 96-98 used.

Check out ponyperformance.com and see what they did. They used a 96-98 GT Computer though.
