I am in the process of putting a 5.0 motor into my friends 65 stang. The first concern I have is the oil pan. The 5.0 has a rear sump that looks like it will hit the power steering. I have never seen this addressed before so I had to ask. Also, will the old alt. be able to handle all the draw of the computer, injectors, etc? How about at night with the lights and stereo on?
THANKS

Don't forget to drill a hole for the dip stick in the front cover or use the old timing cover. Also tap the hole and plug it on the block for the original dip stick.

I'd upgrade to a better alternator anyways but yeah it should work. Not the best but it should.

I dunno about using the old alt. With a rebuilt one, which is rated at 55A, having the lights, wipers, and radio all on at the same time seems to dim the lights a bit on my car. I think the earliest EFI cars had a 60-65A, so I suppose it's possible, but you are adding the computer, injectors, fuel pump, and a half dozen sensors to the normal load.
