and i need this stang running asap for daily driver .. i'm on the point of giving up ... help!

You can't just put in an efi distriburator.

Is the cam that is installed a roller cam?

If yes then it should work if not what you need to do is change the gear on the distriburator to one that is matched to the type of cam you have.

i.e. bronze or steel. I can't remember which you need right now if it's a non roller cam.

If you don't match the correct gear with the cam what will happen is that the gear will get chewed up and the shavings get into your bearings(which is what happened to richard with colt 351 when he used a roller cam in his coupe but forgot to change the distriburator gear.

Man, nearly every time I see a thread with EFI in the title, I can almost hear the calvary trumpets blaring when Fostang replies. :)

If your block is pre-86? You more than likely do not have a roller cam. So, what Fostang mentioned above is probably the culprit.

Let us know if that was indeed it. More than a few of us here are in the process of, or getting ready to do this swap.

i tired to change just the gear but when i did the 5.0 shaft was too long when trying to put it in after changing the gear.

If you got a 5.0 not windsor distriburator it should work.

Is your oil pump shaft centered. Take a look with a flash light

May require a little extra strenght to get the shaft inside the hole.

Sometimes getting the gears to mate is a little hard

The shaft is too long. It has to do with the oil pump shaft. At some point in time ford decided to change this. I just encountered this yesterday on my 68 289 efi conversion. http://vikingmustang.com/EFI_01.asp confirms this as well. Hakan just shortened the shaft and it seemed to work fine. Basically if you cut it where the ridge is at the bottom it should be fine based on the measurement I took.

If you have the correct distributor, and it won't fit, bump the starter a couple times and it should slide down in. I was having problems putting my distributor in my carbed 302, but I bumped the starter a couple times and it went right down in. When you hit the starter, it turns the gear for your to properly align it with the shaft and it drops down in. Good luck.
